Finely bound in attractive early binding of full tan morocco. Spine with five raised bands, each with gilt dots. The compartments with single blind ruled boxes plus double gilt ruled lines around a fully gilt decorated panel, each featuring a dark green leather flower onlay to the centre. Front board with elaborate floral gilt roll within double ruled lines and 48 dark green leather flower onlays round the edge. Central panel double ruled, lettered and with two floral devises, all in gilt. The rear board has the same roll design around the board, again featuring 48 green leather flower onlays, but with the floral parts in blind, all in double gilt ruled lines. Rebel not taken publishing, London. 2018. FIRST EDITION. One of 1,000 copies, numbered and signed by Osborne and Reichardt and with each artist's embossed stamp beneath their signature. Large 8vo. (9.8 x 7 inches). 172pp. Beautifully printed and illustrated throughout in full colour alongside essays and descriptions from multiple artists and examples of their defaced notes. Black cloth binding with gilt lettering to the spine and front board. A fine copy in fine dustwrapper of this fascinating look into a little known art medium.

The Modern Press. 1886. First separate issue, larger untrimmed variant, inscribed by the author. Originally printed in the April 1885-March 1886 issues of "To-Day", this first edition was printed from the corrected and revised stereos of the original setting for the journal. This is the larger, variant issue, with the preliminary blank leaf bound at the beginning. Shaw explains the variant this way: "The size of the bigger copies is due to the fact that they reproduced not only the type but the format of To-day. But the booksellers objected that in this form it occupied too much room to be displayed on their stalls and counters. It was probably cut down as far as the margins would allow to meet this objection" (Laurence). Inscribed by Shaw, "This is the first Issue, which was so tall that the booksellers refused to exhibit it on their counters, as it took too much room. So it had to be cut down. G. Garton & Co. London. 1992. FIRST EDITION. Large 8vo. (11 X 8.5 inches). LIMITED EDITION. One of only 50 copies. Original wood engraving (again one of just 50, numbered and initialled by the printer) in a pocket inside the rear board. Illustrated with a mono photo portrait of Drury for the frontispiece and 94 reproductions of his prints. Also included with the book is an amendment to the catalogue which was issued as 6 stapled A4 sheets and featuring revisions by Alan D. Guest. A fine copy in a fine dustwrapper. ----- Paul Drury was at the centre of the revival of the pastoral tradition at Goldsmith's College in the 1920's, along with Robin Tanner, Graham Sutherland, Bouverie Hoyton & William Larkins, among others, rejecting the plein air tradition of etching which was prevalent at the time. The limited edition wood-engraving that is included with the book is of particular importance, being one of the earliest works by any of the Goldsmiths' group that can really be described as pastoral.

Contains a foreword by Pepler plus a list of the items in the exhibition, three with hand written notes, including prices for the items. Printed on Caslon O. F white paper, sewn. Loosely inserted is a hand printed invite to the private preview on Sunday may 5th, 2.30-6pm. (one sheet, 10.9 x 3.8 inches, folded once). A scarce survivor, even more so with the preview invite. --Evan Gill. Bibliography of Eric Gill. No. 364 , the preview invite is not recorded in the bibliography.

A few small ink spots to the spine but, importantly the spine is still completely present and in very good condition which is uncommon on this title. Some offsetting to the blank endpapers but overall a clean and tidy copy of this scarce book.

(7.8 x 5.4 inches). 8 page publishers advert dated Autumn 1913 at the rear. Light foxing throughout the pages otherwise a very good copy in a contemporary fine leather binding, by Broadbere of Southampton (and with their small binders label on the front pastedown), of full black morocco. Spine with raised bands, each with multiple wavy lines. Compartments double ruled, lettered, and elaborately decorated, all in gilt. Boards with decorative gilt tooled panel within a decorative border, again, all in gilt. Marbled endpapers. Gilt inner dentelles. A beautifully bound copy of this edition, the less common 1913 Cancel title page issue. (7.7 x 5.3 inches). 8 page publishers advert dated Autumn 1913. A very good copy in publishers green cloth binding with spine decorated and lettered in gilt, including the correct spelling of the publishers name at the bottom. Signed by Joseph Conrad on the front free endpaper, Dated 1923. The top of the signed leaf and the half title page have a small indentation where a paper clip has been used.Aside from some light rubbing to the extremities this is a very good tight copy, the gilt on the spine still strong and bright. Loosely inserted is the front panel from the rare dustwrapper, showing a full colour illustration by J. Dewar Mills within a grey border. The whole panel dark blue with grey title and author. Spine with gilt ruled lines, floral design and lettering. Front board with ruled panels and floral designs, all in gilt Single gilt ruled border to the rear board and board edges. Gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. Armorial bookplate of noted author of books on folklore and topography, Sir George Laurence Gomme (1853 - 1916) on the front pastedown. Some offsetting to the endpapers from the leather turn-ins. A little rubbing to the extremities and the spine faded to an attractive brown but overall still a lovely copy of this scarce work in a fine quality binding. The binding is unsigned but is certainly the work of a master bookbinder.

Illustrated with colour frontispiece and sixty four mono illustrations on 60 pages, plus decorative endpapers illustrated in red on cream paper. Publishers blue cloth with gilt lettering to the spine. In the original plain brown paper dustwrapper, lettered in black to the front panel and spine. A fine copy in a near fine dustwrapper with some abrasion to the bottom of the front panel but overall in bright and clean condition.

The publishers original decorative green cloth boards and spine, lettered and decorated in gilt, are bound in at rear. A lovely copy of this wonderful book.

Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. An attractive copy of this charming book.

Spine decorated with gilt ruled lines, floral and bell centre pieces, lettering and gilt piping. Gilt ruled line border on both boards with a gilt stamped device showing two bells to the front board. Gilt inner dentelles. Marbled endpapers. All edges gilt. A hint of rubbing to the edges and a few light spots to the front board but still overall a near fine, attractive copy.

The volumes are illustrated throughout by many different artists including, Leech, Doyle, Tenniel and Maclise. ---- Publishers red cloth with gilt lettering and decoration to all five front boards and spines. Blind single ruled border on boards. Endpapers featuring printed adverts. Minor bumping to the corners but overall a very near fine set . The cloth is bright and clean and the gilt fresh and gleaming on all five books. A beautiful set in superior condition and scarce thus.
