Two ownership names in ink; an inked circle in the middle of the title page. Withal, a solid, presentable copy. With the ownership names of Thomas Lear Strode (1787-1817) on the front free endpaper, he of Devon lineage that used Newnham Park as their family seat, and Henry William Soltau ("H. W. Soltau 1822") 1805-1875) on the title page; he was a published biblical scholar of some renown.The tight, rhetorical vitriol and invective of Juvenal's dactylic hexameter is presented here in a charming pocket edition a la Elzevier.

Dal Tokyo, which first ran in The LA Reader in the early '80s, envisions a future Mars that is inhabited by Texan and Japanese settlers. The "Dal" is short for Dallas.

Lower rear corner just a tad bumped, else bright and fresh. Inscribed by De Armond on the title page: "With all good wishes, [signed] Dale De Armond". In addition, the publisher's 15-page catalog is included, with this title offered in the list. A fine survey of the printmaker's work, which appears to owe as much to the natural influences of Southwest Alaska as the pleasantly primitive impulses of Die Brucke.

An early Burke publication collecting eleven poems, prior to his association with the poets of Skagit Valley, Washington. Some of the poems first appeared in the Magdalene Syndrome Gazette. The ghostly dust jacket design by Alvin Lustig and George Barrows is a little busier than Lustig's designs for New Directions, juxtaposing an ancient statue, with a letter envelope bearing a skull within a spider web. Tiedemann claims in his introduction that his study of cranial capacity was sparked by contemporary debates over the slave trade in the British Parliament. He sought to investigate, beyond his predecessor's efforts, whether "Negroes were a human race, which in organization and soul-capabilities (Seelen-Vermogen) stood far below the peoples of the Caucasus and other races, and were nearly related to apes."
