They established a "reverse language" that allowed spying in the name of freedom, tyranny in the name of equality, massacre in the name of fraternity, persecution in the name of tolerance, etc. This inversion of language - which led to the guillotine and the Vendée "genocide" - was set up by the so-called Enlightenment philosophers, including Voltaire who consistently associated the word "fanatical" with Catholic.
