Description:
Vicksburg, MS: Daily Citizen, 1863. First Edition Thus. Broadside. Very Good. First Edition Thus. Broadside. The most famous edition of the Daily Citizen was its last, June 2 *and* 4, 1863. The publisher, J. M. Swords, was confident that while General Grant had besieged the city for weeks, it would not fall to him and, moreover, that he and the Union would soon be forced into ignominious retreat by the arrival of General Joseph Johnston and the Confederate army. Swords, in an effort to rile up his Vicksburg readership and embolden them to stand strong, issued a snarky rebuke of General Grant in the July 2 edition of the paper: On Dit.--That the great Ulysses--the Yankee Generalissimo, surnamed Grant--has expressed his intention of dining in Vicksburg on Saturday next, and celebrating the 4th of July by a grand dinner and so forth. When asked if he would invite Gen. Jo. Johnston to join he said 'No! for fear there will be a row at the table'. Ulysses must get into the city before he dines in it. The… Read More

Description:
London/New York: Printed for J. Harris and Crosby and Co./Leadenhall Press/Charles Scribner's Sons, 1899. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Very Good-. No DJ as Issued.. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. A very unusual wee children's book. It is, in effect, a hybrid...where Leadenhall and Scribner's took a number of previously printed (letterpress) textblocks and added an additional signature (interestingly, of a very different type of paper stock) of ads and the like in the rear and re-released the book nearly 100 years after it was originally printed. They continued to print this little "Forgotten Children Book" with then modern textblocks when they ran out of the originals. This form is quite scarce and this is, overall, a handsome copy. Light shelf/edge wear, color paper spine missing (though tight), light toning to leaves, else tight, bright and unmarred. Decorative color paper board, paper onlays at front and rear, black ink lettering. 16mo. 66pp plus 4pp ads. Illus. (b/w plates).

Description:
Basel, Switzerland: Unknown, [late 19th century/early 20th century]. Unknown edition. Quarter calf. Very Good+. Unknown edition. Quarter calf. "Dance of Death": late-medieval allegory on the universality of death. With Hans Holbein the Younger, the Danse macabre takes on a completely new artistic form. This depicts the brutal irruption of Death in work and the joy of living. This representation takes precedence over the idea that death spares no social class. In 1538, with the publication of Les simulacres de la Mort, Hans Holbein the Younger redefines the theme of the danse macabre. Death, always aggressive and jubilant, no longer dances in a long farandole, but intervenes directly in scenes of daily life. From then on, Holbein's work became the reference. This is a series of 41 woodcuts, which were originally executed around 1526 and published 12 years later in Basel, in a collection entitled: Les simulacres et historiées faces de la mort. It was Holbein who really brought the Danse Macabre… Read More

The idea to create this book in Korean and Hebrew was to make a bridge between our cultures and our traditions. Tight and unmarred.
