The image is badly centered, with the right side wider than the left.

Fritz Scholder (1937-2005), an important American figurative painter, is best known for his expressionistic portraits of Native Americans (he was an enrolled member of the Luiseño tribe). But his artistic practice was not limited to the visual arts. For a brief period, following a collaborative project with Leonard Baskin in 1994, Scholder produced five artist's books as the Apocrypha Press. This is the third of the little-known book series from Scholder. He conceived of the book and arranged for its printing by letterpress and handbinding. Transcripts of hearings on the falling price of silver (which would hit a record low of 25 cents per ounce by the end of the year, resulting in Roosevelt's nationalization of silver and a federal redeption of silver at 50 cents per ounce. Several people who testified at these hearings discussed the falling Chinese demand for silver as part of the international problem during the Great Depression. Very good. Staples a bit rusted.

[San Francisco]: [Probably Taber Photo], 1880. Ephemera. Near fine. An imperial plate (8-1/2 by 12-1/2 inches) image of the El Capitan, one of the best-known rock formations in the Yosemite Valley. Watkins made at least five mammoth-plate images from this vantage point over a period of at least 20 years. Watkins took this image between 1878 and 1881. It may have been printed by Isaiah Taber, after Taber took over Watkins's bankrupt photo studio. However, it does not have the Taber imprint but the mount matches another Yosemite image with Taber's logo in the negative. This view is very similar to one of Watkins's mammoth-plate images (Naef and Hult-Lewis, Carleton Watkins: The Complete Mammoth Photographs, no. 136) and was almost certainly taken at the same time. It is easily distinguishable from images taken at another time because this image and the corresponding mammoth-plate view have a white reflection of the mountain in the water in the foreground. Valparaíso, Chile: El Umbral Secreto, 2010. First Edition. Near fine. The limited edition catalog of the 2010 international Surrealist conclave held in Chile, housed in a wooden box with a hinged lid. This box includes the four catalogs, one of artwork, one of poetry, one of prose works, and one titled "Más de teoría" (Beyond theory). The latter is perfectbound; the other three consist of narrow sheets of paper printed in color on both sides, with a hole drilled in one corner for binding with a bolt and a wing nut. The lid is screenprinted on both sides in black. The top has the title and an illustration; the lower lid is screenprinted with a short piece by Octavio Paz on Surrealism (beginning, "El surrealismo ha sido la manzana en el árbol de la sintaxis" [Surrealism has been the apple on the syntax tree] reprinted from his "Arbol adentro"). One of a series of groundbreaking Chicano Movement children's picture books, written and illustrated by some of the most important Chicano activist writers and artists. The author was Alurista, the main illustrator was one of the original activist-artists of Chicano Park in San Diego, Victor Orozco Ochoa, along with several other artists. The recent poet laureate of the United States, Juan Felipe Herrera, oversaw the project. Despite the cultural significance of the books in this series, all of which are very scarce, hardly any collections of children's books include even a single title in the series. Your cataloger's knowledge of French and French politics after the Second World War is not sufficient to offer an analysis of the poster. One suspects it (mostly) means the opposite of what it says or that it is a sort of word salad of election-style statements without meaning, but draw your own conclusions: Pas de paix! Car la voie est ouverte à l'orgueil, la cupidité, la violence et le mensonge [No peace! Because the way is open to pride, greed, violence and lies]. Écartez le candidat qui préconise la lutte de classe. L'amour seul est constructif! [Reject the candidate who advocates class struggle. Elementos was an official university textbook for a generation, drawing on the work of Adam Smith, Jean-Baptiste Say, and K. H. Rau. This first edition was reportedly just 500 copies (see The Economics Reader: Textbooks, Manuals and the Dissemination of the Economic Sciences..., p. 163). The book "is divided into a theoretical section, which synthesizes Smith and Say, and a section containing applications to the Spanish case" (ibid.).
