This is a small book of poetry by Madame de Basily in English. Her story can be read on the Hoover Institution website. She is American born and the donor of the items in the Nicolas de Basily room. This book was published in Paris the year after her marriage in November, 1919. Her husband was the Diplomat of Imperial Russia 1903 - 1917. The poetry in this 31 page book is dated 1915 - 1917. It appears to be one of a kind. There are marbled end papers plus three from, front and back. The cover has wear as shown. There is foxing from page 21 onward. The poems are titled: In Tifles, The Cry of Holy Russia, Anarchist Lullaby, Human Wreckage, Afternoon Service in the Alexander Newsky Monastery, The Kremlin, White Night on the Gulf of Finland,Republic of Cronstadt, ProphesyTo Life. There is also a dedication to her mother. Mr. and Mrs. de Basily are buried in Baltimore. Land, Estates, and Wealth were never recovered in Russia.

Burgundy hardcover book with spine curl and worn end caps, corners and top and bottom edges. The free front end page has a name, two small soil spots and one stamp from a Used Book Exchange at Milwaukee Downer College Textbook with underlining in pencil. No Dust Jacket. Hinges are intact. Still a usable book. Ships with delivery confirmation.

Hardcover book with 24 Narratives. The African Servant tells the story of a boy looking for sea shells by the shore when white sailors take hime and he never sees his mother or father again. He is taken to Jamaica where he is sold to an American who keeps him in his house as his servant. Three years before this Narrative he is resold to a new "massa" a Captain of a ship. It tells of his conversian to Christianity in order to go to heaven. This book is only a reading copy. It is heavily foxed with damp staining but no smells. No date but research shows it was published circa 1850. There is an ownership inscription date June 18th, 1865 in pencil on the ffep with a previous ownership removed. The front hinge is cracked. The book is complete but a couple of sections have detached from the top to middle strings. The spine is very cocked with the endcaps very worn. The corners and bottom edge is also worn. Book is in Fair condition, the spine is bent, worn at cover corners, chipped bottom edge. Wear to edges of spine w/tears, chip backside. Foxing throughout, has a circular water stain, two sections protrude out (intact) and are crinkled on the end. Some writing (I think in pencil) on back end page. Book cover is soiled on backside, no dj.

NOT an ex-library. No writing inside. Some scuffs and scratches on backside of dust jacket, photo 8 and crinkle at top of front dust jacket with light edge wear at top and bottom, bottom photo 12. Book in excellent condition. The darker green edging caused the long scuff mark on the back of the jacket. World Sport bled through to the front cover. Some sunfading at top of book. Basically no actual wear to the book, acid free paper.

The dust jacket is well worn with tears and small pieces missing; however, it has kept the black boards with gold lettering clean and bright. Price on flap is $3.95, No. 9467A. 0260. Back of dust jacket with the Kennedy family photo has No. 5861. Remnants of some glue on back end paper and opposite side. 1960 F - M (probably sixth printing of the 1960 hardcover edition) with untrimmed leaves. First Edition not stated. Withdrawn from Wheaton College Library (IL) with withdrawn stamps, call number on spine, and embossed Wheaton College Library marks. 1923 First Edition with untrimmed leaves and Errata slip attached to the backside of the Appendix. Vocals lines for Leaves on the Bough (with music) and Aedh Wishes for the Cloth of Heaven laid in. I think it was attached to the back board where there is glue marks. Book is complete with 59 pages. Boards are in Fair condition. Cloth on backstrip split and reglued. Scarce book published in England by the Oxford University Press.

Booklet 48 pp. Stapled wraps.  Appears to be First Thus. Condition is very good.

Insicribed, "For grandma with list of names of her family signed by Kathy Stelford. Also has the date 5/09 written in a different color ink. Back side of dj. bumped along top edge with a small tear back corner, glass ring indent impresion + scratch.

Inscribed in rock on second page A Rock for Peter signed by author & Illus.
Dj. is pristine with a laminate cover (NOT x-lib) but tape yellowed & left a mark inside.
