Dransfield (a commissioner who administered oaths in trial court and who is mentioned in print) and some with the blind-stamp of S. Musgrave, photo-printer. First edition. The original case was brought by tenants of Sir John Ramsden, owner of a large estate near Huddersfield. Ramsden had made arrangements with many of his tenants, often without a signed lease, which included terms of tenancies and agreements for the improvement of the properties. After Ramsden died, his heirs sought to nullify many of these arrangements and enter into specific lease terms with all tenants; those that refused were given notices to quit. First edition (a second edition, which contained a map, was printed the following year). Parker's work is one of the earliest travel books written in English about Texas. He journeyed west by way of the Great Lakes to Chicago, then south from St. Louis to Natchez by Mississippi River steamboat, and overland westward through Natchitoches and Nacogdoshes to the Colorado River of central Texas. He returned to New England by steamer from New Orleans in the early part of 1835.

Rare first edition of monograph on kingfishers, a family of small, brightly colored birds known for their long sharp bills. This was Sharpe's first book and launched his career as one of the most prominent ornithologists of the time. Significantly, it also marked the first collaboration between Sharpe and the artist John Gerrard Keulemans (1842–1912), who made the drawings and transferred them to stone.
