[Madison, Wisconsin]:: ORCS,, 2017.. Edition of 300. 6 x 9"; 84 pages. Softcover. Screen printed dust jacket. Signed and numbered by the artist. Christopher Maddox: "Fake Art! is a series of statistical and poetic text analyses. Each piece imposes audacious task-reassignments and other structural manipulations to shift tone and meaning of the words broadcast by contemporary political figures. Book #1 focuses on interviews given by Donald Trump with the Associated Press and Time magazine in 2017. The new iteration may appear elevated, degraded, or a combination of these that can both satisfy and disturb the reader. The reader's experience will depend on perspective and attitude - on the sum of one's encounters with the world, and his or her confirmation bias. "The texts presented in staggered, narrative poetic form within are not redacted. Each such page presents a single transcribed response in its entirety as spoken by President Trump. Photos of three generations of good little girsl from the artist's family are paired with other women's stories about being good or their parents' expectations of goodness. Lise Melhorn-Boe: "I had decided to explore the socialization of little girls and so wrote a questionnaire asking about being a good girl, or not, and sent it out to the women on my list - this wasn't the first questionnaire. So the stories come from a number of women but I chose to use photos of girls in my own family. I remembered how we used to get black and white photos in little booklets with the plastic "coils" so that's why I bound it that way.

Kate O'Brien, Odyssey, Jul 13, 2015: "We need to work to remove the stigma from the word 'feminism' because it's about equality and not about man-hating … I propose we all pause and think about what the word feminism really means. To me, feminism means empowerment. It means I can speak my mind and stand up for what I believe in. It means I have the strength to accomplish anything I set my mind to. I can talk too much, laugh too loudly, love way too hard and too much, and unapologetically be me. I want everyone to one day feel comfortable and empowered enough to say the same. So instead of putting each other down, let's lift each other up. Let's stop denying the power of feminism, because it can be life-changing. Let's stop treating feminism like a dirty word and instead… Read More
