Illustrated with engravings. The lettering labels have been replaced and the hinges have been neatly and nearly invisibly repaired; this is a very good set. Volume 1 is the seventh edition; volume 2 is the fifth edition. Even though the editions differ, the binding are clearly intended to make this a set. ESTC T13824.

NY: The Viking Press, 1938. First edition, first printing. Very good plus/Very good. Illustrated by the author.. Thin 4to. Unpaginated. Printed cloth spine; pictorial paper boards. Pages printed on one side only, with a marvelous woodcut-type illustration. Each letter of the alphabet has its fairy-related verse. The title page shows a thoughtful Merlin, pen in hand, and pondering a group of fairies, whilst his open book rests on a lectern incorporating two tiny dragons. Unusual, charming and uncommon. A very good copy with only a trace of wear. The scarce price-clipped dustwrapper is present. It has a few short closed marginal tears, and lacks small pieces at the spine and fold tips and the lower corner of the upper panel, else gives a very good appearance.

Contemporary red cloth spine, gray boards, printed title label. Index. A fairly comprehensive (for the period) guide to dyeing and cleaning nearly every kind of cloth article "whether made of flax, silk, cotton, wool, or hair". Lightly foxed, as is typical for the period, edges of label perished, some wear to edges else a very good copy.

Phildelphia: Thayer, Merriam and Co, 1884. Hardcover. Very good. Thick 8vo. xv,17-540 followed by 4pp of publisher's ads. Green cloth blocked in black and gilt. Binding rubbed and worn at edges, inner hinges nearly mended, paper toned with age, still a very good copy. Illustrated. Stories of heroes, trappers, explorers, adventurers, scouts and Indian fighters. Neat ownership name dated 1884. Howes C-245. .

This is the Seeley Large Paper edition which has been extra-illustrated with 245 portraits and views by William Sanford Hills, Boston, 1895. One of 150 numbered copies; this is number 124. Finely bound by P. B. Sanford of Boston in full crimson morocco. Spines in six compartments with raised bands, intricately gilt. The boards are tooled in gilt with intricate interwoven lines reminiscent of Grolier. Gilt inner dentelles, with the stamp of the binder; purple silk endpapers. Top edges gilt; the others untrimmed. A fine set in a magnificent binding. The Sanford Company of Bookbinders was located on Bedford Street in Boston, and specialized, inter alia, in fine bindings of levant, morocco and calf. .

n.p.: Bobbs-Merrill Company, 1913. First edition. Hardcover. Near fine. 4to. (12),72pp. Pale purple cloth, white spine title and with a full color paste-on to the upper board. Illustrated end papers. Complete with 12 full page, full color illustrations by Fanny Cory. Two plates have creases and one has a short repaired marginal tear, the binding has a discoloration at the bottom of the rear board but only traces of edge wear to the boards and the paste-on. Overall, this is a near fine copy of a fragile book seldom found complete. Fanny Young Cory (1877-1972) was an American cartoonist and illustrator, She produced covers and interior illustrations for major American magazines, began illustrating children's books in 1898, and kept up with comic work until 1956. .

Erasure mark on front free endpaper, light wear to edges and rear board, faint trace of occasional foxing, else this is a very good to near fine copy., In unclipped dustwrapper showing original $2.00 price. The dustwrapper has a small chip at bottom of spine, surface damage to rear panel,light wear to edges and folds. Overall a very good presentation of a scarce and early Bemelmans title which has apparently never been reprinted since this edition. Pomerance, A12.

Two thick file folders of 8½ by 11 inch copy typescript containing many reports on the Salmon Ruin Development for the Four Corners Regional Commission. Approximately 20 separate reports a such subjects as the excavations, ceramics, and ethnobotany of the ruins. The poages are mostly not numbered, and may be printed on one of both sides. Recent additon of blank pink sheets now separate the collated articles. Salmon Ruins is an ancient Chacoan and Pueblo site located in the northwest corner of New Mexico, USA. Salmon was constructed by migrants from Chaco Canyon around 1090 CE, with 275 to 300 original rooms spread across three stories, an elevated tower kiva in its central portion, and a great kiva in its plaza. In 1980, Irwin-Williams and co-principal investigator Phillip Shelley wrote, compiled and edited a multivolume, 1,500-page report which was not intended for publication. Manchester: Emmott & Co., Limited, 1916. First edition. Hardcover. Fine. 8vo. xv,(1),326pp. followed by ads. Red cloth with gilt titles on the spine and upper board. Illustrated throughout and with folding plates depicting the machinery used in the finishing and calendering processes, and includes a section on starching. While not specific to the book arts, the content here comes very close to the manufacture of book cloth. Victorian bookcloth was starch filled then calendered to give it is decorative designs. The largest of the bookcloth suppliers, the Winterbotham Company, was located in Manchester, the location of this imprint. A fine copy with only light traces of wear a some light pencil underlining. Scarce in first edition. It was reprinted in 1928.

Noteworthy for the use of the original wood block cut by W. H. Hooper for the Ashendene Press edition of Malory in 1913. On Roma Michaelangelo paper , handmade by Fabriano. There were 30 impressions: 3 proofs and 27 numbered copies in the press. This is copy No 1, Dr. Monell's copy. A fine copy. .

Chicago (?): Blue Ribbon/Pleasure Books (?), 1935. Stiff card. Near fine. Two sheets of card joined by a paper spine enclosing a folded card sheet with a Pop-Up of Flash in a sword fight with Prince Barin. Pencil and ink with gouache and overlaid with a fixative. On the outer cover, in ink, is the number "3." and what appears to be a sketch of the Pop-Up mechanism. In pencil is the word "Proto type". The card enclosed has partially separated from the artwork showing what appear to be preliminary pencil sketches. Blue Ribbon Books was founded in 1930. In 1932, a Blue Ribbon executive, Eugene Reynal, took an idea that had been successful in England and introduced it into the US as Pop-Up books. The Pop-Ups were created by Harold B. Lentz. According to Publisher's Weekly, Lentz made copy after copy until he was satisfied that the finished books would permit constant opening and closing without crushing the folded pieces and destroying those that did not. Patavino (Padua): M. Cerdonis, 1482. Hardcover. Good. 4to. 69 of 70 leaves, lacking folio 1 (supplied in facsimile). Initials throughout in red and blue, some with fine penwork decoration. Inner margin worming nor affecting the text. Contemporary unsophisticated binding of beveled wooden boards and pigskin thongs. Metal clasp partially perished as is the spine covering, which was probably alum-tawed pigskin. The main boards seem never to have been covered as evidenced by contemporary notes on the inner surfaces. Extensive notes and marginalia in contemporary hands throughout, some entries dated in the early 16th century. Rare. No auction record since the 1920's. Rolandino (ca. 1215-1300) was one of the most famous medieval jurists and a master of notarial art. The Flos Testamentorum is considered one of the best notarial treatises ever produced and provides an insight into Bolognese life during the Middle Ages.

In fine condition. The dustwrapper is not price-clipped, has a couple of tape remnants on the flaps, else is in near fine condition. One of the definitive works on the subject. Laid-in is a prospectus for the Annotated Dictionary of Fore-Edge Painting as well as Jeff Webber's 2006 catalog devoted to fore-edge paintings. .

London: J. B. Nichols and Son, 1828. Hardcover. Very good. 4to. xlviii, 348pp. Illustrated with 11 full page engraved plates, the plate of Egyptian Trades with contemporary hand-coloring. Recently bound to style in quarter calf, spine in six compartments and raised bands; leather lettering labels, gilt. The plates include scenes of Thebes, Acheron, Bacchus, Roman Houses, Pompeii, Telmessus, etc. Without the additional plates from other works sometimes found. The frontispiece was once closely trimmed, not affecting the image, is now mounted on paper of similar size and age as the text block. Occasional light foxing, one short marginal closed tear on a text page else a very good copy in a fine binding.

North Hills, PA: Bird & Bull Press, 1970. Limited edition. Hardcover. Near fine. 9-1/2 by 12 inches. 13 pages plus catalogue facsimile in pocket at rear board. Cloth spine with marbled paper boards. Typical slight discoloration in gutters which continues into text, but fades as it gets away from boards, appears to be offset from glue in binding. Otherwise in excellent condition. Neat previous owner's inscription on front free end paper. Number 56 of the 160 copies printed for members of the Philobiblon Club on handmade paper (from a total edition of 250 copies). A fabulous story of one of the world's great biblio hoaxes. Neat inscription on front pastedown from Mort Whitehead to Robert K. Johnson.

Easthampton, MA: Cheloniidae Press, 1986. Limited edition. Hardcover. Fine. Full Vellum Edition, one of 26 lettered copies. This is copy O/Z. Bound in full cream-colored vellum. Twenty-six bird portrait wood engravings by Robinson are arranged alphabetically. Each engraving is accompanied with an initial letter and the Latin and common names hand lettered by Suzanne Moore. An extra suite of 26 engravings, each signed by Robinson, are laid into a chemise. A set of the alphabet blind-stamped by Suzanne Moore is laid into a separate chemise, along with an original watercolor by Robinson of a Roadrunner. Finely printed by Harold McGrath and bound by Gary Parrot. A fine set, housed in a vellum-backed clamshell cased. The cloth of the case has some spotting else it is in fine condition as well.
