She arrived in North China in 1917, and for some 20 years she specialized in Chinese home and family life. During the war she was in W. China where she was related to the rural reconstruction program at Ginling College & later to the Methodist Rural Center, Kien Yan, from which this book was researched. Covering a study of family life in two communities: Liu Chia Ho and Ling Chia Hua Yuan, the service program, and the research tools and techniques employed.
