Description:
NY: W.W. Norton & Company, 1963. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. First printing of this monumental work, which nearly single-handedly ushered in second-wave feminism. Friedan argued that the dissatisfaction rampant among post-war American women was the direct result of the "feminine mystique," a limiting trope of passivity then prevalent in mainstream culture. Written in a persuasive and easily relatable manner, the book resonated with readers and quickly became a runaway hit, selling more than one million copies during its first year in print. Though not without its blind spots--Friedan concerns herself almost exclusively with the plight of white, middle-class women--the book's importance as a catalyst of social upheaval in the 1960s and 1970s cannot be overstated. As such, it remains widely regarded as one of the 20th century's most influential works of nonfiction. First edition, first printing, with full number line present on copyright page. Description:
Soft cover. Fine. A pamphlet (7"x4.75") consisting of a single tri-fold sheet of five poems by Chinas Comidas, the pen name of Cynthia Genser (later Cynthia Kraman), who was the lyricist and lead singer for the late-70s Seattle punk band of the same name. All five of these poems served double duty as lyrics for Chinas Comidas songs, none of which made it onto the band's two official EPs, but were eventually included on the 2006 compilation "Chinas Comidas: Live and Studio Recordings 1977-1980." This undated chapbook was presumably produced at some point during the band's tenure, though we can find no record of its existence online. Genser used the "Chinas Comidas" pen name for at least a couple of years, self-publishing a chapbook, "Cowboys," under that name in 1978, before reverting to Cynthia Genser as the band gained recognition. This publication uses the band logo which, according to a useful if somewhat disjointed history of the band on the Jive… Read More

Description:
Todd Walker, 1974. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Very Good. Walker (1917-1998) was an American photographer and book artist. In the mid-1960s, after receiving an offset press as a gift from his wife, he began publishing his own works, which show an increasing mastery of the various aspects of book production, from typesetting to binding to photolithography. He is particularly known for his iconic nude photographs produced using Sabbatier solarization--a technique on striking display in three of the five works in this grouping. 1) Twentyseven Photographs. Self-published, 1974. Prints of Walkers solarized photographs of nude women, printed on the recto only. Signed by Walker in pencil and numbered 13/166. Perfect-bound in printed wraps; 8 x 6 in.; unpaginated. Some light foxing to the wraps, internally fine. 2) A Few Notes Selected from Lesson A of Wilsons Photographics. Self-published, 1976.
