Description:
Millerton, NY: Jargon Society, 1974. First Edition. Trade paperback. Very good. The book "consists of 64 portraits of "Lucybelle Crater"...played by Meatyard's wife Madelyn wearing a cheap dime-store mask...paired with various family members and friends wearing one of those transparent masks that have an aging affect on wearers... This book is, in a way, Meatyard's purest statement. He was dying, and didn't have time for a lot of nuances. It its forthrightness and its gothic loopiness, it manages to illuminate two truths simultaneously: that we are all the same, really; and that we are all different, under the masks"-from Roth's Book of 101 Books, page 230. Text by Jonathan Williams, Ronald Johnson, Ralph Meatyard, Guy Mendes and Thomas Meyer. Illustrated with full-page halftone photographs. 84 pages. 8-15/16 by 10-7/16 inches. First edition (paperback issue; published in hardcover at the same time). One inch split at top of spine, minor soiling to covers; some lamination peel, as usual, else very… Read More

Description:
London: Collins, 1984. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/Near fine. The tenth Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin novel, set during the War of 1812. O'Brian's series of meticulously detailed nautical novels set during the early 19th century set a high bar for historical fiction. This novel provides the plot to the film Master and Commander, starring Russell Crowe. The middle novels of the 21-book series are some of the scarcest first editions in the series. This book is particularly tough as the publisher changed the price (or misprinted it) on the dust jacket and issued most copies with a clipped jacket and a price sticker. First edition (first printing). A near fine copy in a near fine dust jacket with only the slightest fading to the spine. This jacket is not price-clipped, but it has the price sticker, making it an uncommon intermediate state. It is entirely likely that many of the copies currently offered for sale with the original £8.95 unclipped price and no sticker have simply had the… Read More
