Partly printed certificate conveying the recipe and the right to manufacture "Sun-Light Oil," a non-explosive kerosene substitute for lamp fuel. Or so was the claim. Motorist's pocket, state-by-state directory of restaurants, hotels, and roadside motor courts plus select private homes open to tourists. The guide was sponsored by a trade association, Federal Hi-Way Silent-Nite Homes, who were the successors to Approved Wayside Stations and National Wayside Homes. Federal's tagline was "America's Better Tourist Homes." With a rubber stamp on the cover of directory participant Johnson Terrace conducted by Mrs. Chas. W. Johnson of Jacksonville, Florida: "Central location; pri and conn baths; showers; running water in all rms; steam heat." The guidebook claims that it is the "Fifty-Sixth Edition" -likely an exaggeration. Unlisted in OCLC which returns four copies of other "editions" for 1938 and 1939.

Published in the centennial year of the ratification of the 15th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, the work examines the impact on African Americans of that amendment which established voting rights for all (male) Americans regardless of "race, color, or previous condition of servitude."  The work was written by Charles H. Wesley, former president of Wilberforce University and the founding president of Central State University, both HBCUs in Ohio, who was then serving as Executive Director of The Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (ASNLH).  Well-illustrated and includes a legislative history of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
