Paris: Éditions G. L. M., 1935. 4to, original photographic wrappers, unbound folded sheets as issued. Small creases on front cover, slight edge wear, lightly toned as usual. Near fine. One of 1200 copies on thick vélin paper (there were also 25 copies with an original print signed by Man Ray) . With twelve images by the American photographer, Man Ray (born Emmanuel Radnitzky) in collaboration with the poet, Paul Éluard, whose wife, known as Nusch, inspired the poems and posed for the photographs. Beautiful Surrealist photographic book with the images interwoven in and around the poems. Paris: Chez Basset, 1801. Folio, modern ½ shagreen spine and corners and marbled boards; spine with gilt ornaments. Title page expertly restored. Fine copy of a ve ry beautiful edition of Aesop's fables, entirely engraved: title page and nineteen leaves. A profile of Bonaparte appears at the top of the title page, flanked by Fortune, who crowns him, and the Fren ch rooster; at the bottom, a lion, dog and horse cavort. Each leaf bears a vignette above the text of the fable followed by its moral lesson and below the text, a lovely calligraphic arabesque usually incorporating an animal. Decorative frontispiece with a pair of caryatids bearing faceted crystals, title page, two borders and initial by Behrens. Printed in pale blue, crimson and brown on cream paper. Dedicated to the Kunstler-Kolonie, an artists' colony at Mathildenhohe near Darmstadt founded by Grand Duke Ludwig of Hesse, which Behrens joined in 1899. He was a pioneer of 20th century architecture, an industrial designer, and in his earlier career a graphic artist and designer of jewelry, porcelain and furniture. A beautiful trade catalogue of Art Deco and geometric patterned inlaid wood banding. With 16 pages including 15 chromolithograph, each with numerous examples of inlaid strips in wood, ivory, copper, nickel, silver and pewter for use in furniture, carriages, etc. A second section with its own title page "Bandes Mosaiques Art Moderne". Buffard worked from the late 19th century until their bankruptcy in the 1930s. Their shop and offices were at 21 Faubour St. Antoine (11ème).
