Apparently bound without photo frontispiece (a variant?), else Near Fine with a few small stains to back board, former owner's name on front free endpaper. A clean bright copy, sturdily bound. Lacking jacket. A legendary rarity; the warehouse holding copies of this self-published novel without the letter "e" (a lipogram) burned down shortly after publication.

Signed by Richard Brautigan on verso of front wrap, inscribed to writer Floyd Salas on his birthday (one day early, actually) in San Francisco, Jan. 23, 1971. Publisher's red printed wraps, hand-sewn string binding. Second Edition. Very Good, small stain to front wrap, a few more small stains to back wraps. Nice shape overall. A nice association between the singular Brautigan and a California novelist of Spanish and Native American ancestry best-known for his debut Tattoo the Wicked Cross.

San Francisco: The White Rabbit Press, 1958. First Edition. Near Fine. First edition, first printing. Signed by Richard Brautigan on the title page. Hand-sewn red wrappers in a printed parchment cover. Near Fine with trivial stain to front cover near spine and top page corners lightly bent. Richard Brautigan's second book of poetry, published by The White Rabbit Press in an edition of 200 copies and scarcely found signed.

A very rare signature on the gay American writer's first novel, a widely-acclaimed novel of World War II.

Negative in Vol. 4 has come unglued, laid in; copper plate present. A deluxe facsimile of Blake's emblem book in both versions with plates reproduced in collotype, plus sketchbook drawings as well as scholarly and critical material.

The first issue here, #4, features a very ahead-of-its-time photo spread titled "Gender Fuck" with members of the San Francisco radical theater group The Cockettes.
