Description:
Indian Civil Servant, author, and husband of Women's Movement founder Saroj Nalini. Book Signed and Inscribed on front endpaper: "With Sincere Regards from G.S. Dutt" and dated 1937. Dutt's book is a testament to the meaningful activism of his wife Nalini, who sought to bring social, economic, and educational advances to the Indian women in the rural regions outside Calcutta. Her foundation of the Women's Institute was crucial in spreading education to women throughout the country, providing women with vocational training that enabled them a new level of independence in that they could earn for themselves and support their families. Following her early death at the age of 37, Nalini's dedicated husband Dutt carried on her mission by writing her biography as well as initiating The Saroj Nalini Dutt Memorial Association, which was later affiliated to the Associated Country Women of the World, an international organisation dedicated to the upliftment of the status of women worldwide.

Description:
[LGBTQ] The Gay Detective, Lou Rand. Saber Books: 1961. First edition. 161 pages. 4.25" x 7" in. Cover art shows two men in suits helping a blonde woman covered only in a blanket down a flight of stairs, the woman holding her head while the two men look at each other in alarm. Considered by many to be the beginning of the gay detective genre, this pulp classic, later renamed Rough Trade, was one of the first gap pulp novels of the sixties. Gay Detective follows Francis Morley solve a series of murders with his ex-football champion sidekick Tiger Olsen. While there are no gay love scenes in the book, its homoerotic camp is well-developed. As an early gay character, Morley is notably unbothered by his sexuality. Far from struggling with his identity, Morley is comfortable and confident, focused on the case at hand. The last 6 pages of the book include text from 1959 Supreme Court ruling regarding obscenity laws and booksellers. "It bears repetition that the determination of obscenity is for juror or… Read More

Many photographs were captured in San Francisco, Washington D.C., New York, Philadelphia, and Ohio. The 1990's were a period of intense activism as the gay rights movement mobilized in the face of the AIDS epidemic and discriminatory practices including "don't ask don't tell." In response to "Don't Ask Don't Tell", Amendment 2 in Colorado, rising hate crimes, and on-going discrimination against the LGBTQ community an estimated 800,000 to one million people participated in the March on Washington for Lesbian, Gay, and Bi Equal Rights and Liberation on April 25, 1993. As protests for gay marriage gained traction in the 90's, the conservative backlash was strong and decisive with the Defense of Marriage Act signed into law in 1996. It would be almost twenty years before same sex marriage became legal nationwide. These 35mm film slides document Gay protests all over the U.S. Some slides… Read More

U.S. General. Head of all US Forces during the Vietnam War. Great content. Headed: "Gen. William Westmoreland - Commander of U.S. forces in Vietnam - CNN Interview." In part: "We had in fact replaced the French in that regard -- and we had advisers down to battalion level within the Vietnamese military structure. The problem at that time was not an invasion of the area by the North Vietnamese, but it was the erosion of the effectiveness of government brought about by the so-called "VC" -- the Viet Cong. It was not open warfare ... At the outset, the President made the statement that he would not geographically broaden the war, and that meant that military actions were confined to the territory of South Vietnam. The enemy was not operating under such restraints,...That gave the enemy a sanctuary... We were winning on the battlefield, but whether we were winning strategically is another matter..." Which is to say, I got your letter separated from the book and ended up assigning you the wrong name and address. If it is any comfort, the problem was that I remembered your face and the quality of your ideas so well that I assumed there was no way I could be wrong about the name. It was a most enjoyable hour or so with you and Jacqueline. Regarding the college appearance you mentioned in your last letter, the proper way to set it up is to contact Mr. William Leigh, Jr....The reason for going through them is that they try to set up my tour dates so that they cover a whole region at the same time, minimizing jet-lag… Read More
