Many are well known today such as The Spinning Top, Quoits, Pitching Pennies, Hopscotch, Shuttlecock and Blind Man's Buff others are more obscure such as Pot Breaking, Push-Pin, fire Leaping and Cherry-Pit. The Garden Alphabet has been compiled to illustrate some of the vanished beauties, fashions and Eccentricities of former gardens. Pages of text are enclosed within floral decorative borders. Many delightful illustrations in addirtion to the 24 engravings, pages are not numbered. DW has been repaired.

Title page states that this book is "particularly adapted to the use of Latin and French Schools". Condition of binding is good with new spine, headbands and endpapers, condition of text is g to vg. A few straight strokes are on the frontis and the reverse of the frontis has the owner's name and the date 1797 written in black ink.

Bound in full calf leather( (has the colour of walnut furniture), 5 raised bands, maroon leather label, titled in gold, new endpapers, frontis portrait of Flavius Josephus, vignette on pre-title page, marbled page edges, 53 engraved plates, 848pp. Contains "The Antiquities of the Jews", "A history of the jewish wars", Three Dissertations concerning Jesus Christ, John the Baptist etc. It also contains "The Life of Josrphus", written by himself and a "Sequel to the History of the Jews continued to the date of witing comprehending the events of two centuries from the fall of Jerusalem to the time of the Emperor Severus. Binding has recently been rebacked and is now in vg to fine condition. All the plates have some degree of foxing but the text is vg.
