Throughout the first half of the 19th-century, numerous printings of 'Gazetteer of the State of New York' appeared. Written and edited by various authors, this work remained popular for years throughout the United States. This is an interesting 19th century woodblock-print book titled "Muromachi Genji Kochounomaki," which is an adaptation of Murasaki Shikibu's "The Tale of Genji" set in the Muromachi period. The book was written by Ryutei Tanehiko II, also known as Ryutei Senka, a disciple of Ryutei Tanehiko I, who first adapted the original work into "Nise Murasaki Inaka Genji." The illustrations in the book were done by Baichourou Kunisada, also known as Utagawa Kunisada II. The book is a significant example of the ukiyo-e genre, blending literature and art into a cohesive form.
