Description:
391 pages; in German and Latin. Rebound; extremely light fraying of head and heel of spine, some age-darkening, otherwise in excellent condition, with all pages tight, clear, unmarked, untorn. Bears bookplate of K.M. Setton (1914-1995) of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton.Heinrich Hagenmeyer (1834-1914) was a groundbreaking scholar of the Crusades, whose standards for publishing and editing sources, particularly for the First Crusade, set the standard for historians ever since.Walter the Chancellor, a 12th century Crusader and Chancellor of Antioch, wrote his work on Antiochene Wars between 1119 and 1122. He provides a compelling first-hand account of the battle between Roger of Salerno's Antiochene Crusader army and that of Ilghazi of Mardin, who soundly defeated the Crusaders and killed Roger on the Field of Blood in 1119.. He also sheds some light on relations with nearby Muslim states. This is a hard-to-find first edition of Hagenmeyer's edited, indexed and annotated Bella Antiochena.

Description:
267 pages. Small stain on flyleaf, bears bookplate and signature of Prof. K.M. Setton (1914-1995) of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton. Binding absolutely sound, all pages tight and bright, with perhaps a little age-darkening.Reinhold Röhricht (1842-1905) was arguably one of the most indefatigable, intensive, thorough and meticulous compilers, editors and organizers of materials relating to the history and topography of the Holy Land and the Crusades. Although not an historical synthesizer nor indeed an historian, but perhaps more of an antiquarian and researcher, Röhricht virtually singlehandedly laid the foundation for modern historical research and study of the Crusades.Although somewhat dated now, his critical edition of materials relating to the First Crusade still remain of value to modern historians

Description:
Near Fine; a couple of small tears at front bottom of dust jacket, some tanning of dust jacket spine and top edge and a little soiling on back; volume itself in near fine/fine condition except for a few very small stains on front page edges.. A hard-to-find first edition of Rubinstein's classic investigation into the mechanisms and strategists used by the Medici to maintain control and authority in a milieu where they had no more formal power or authority than other citizens. Based on hitherto unresearched archival material, Rubinstein goes far beyond the typical histories of Medici personalities to illustrate the complex workings of Florentine society, its electoral processes, governance and constitution, as well as the opposition to the Medici and the eventual fall of the regime.

Three volumes, 1994 pages. In Latin and Italian. Some bumping and abrasion to the Inside edge of the rear board of volume lll, a little corner-bumping to the front board of volume ll, some abrasion to the title label of volume ll, two very small stains on top edges of pages of volumes l and lll. All bindings tight, all pages bright and unmarked; interior of all volumes in fine condition. Bears bookplate of Prof. K.M. Setton (1914-1995) of the Princeton Institute for Advanced Study. This is a very good copy of Sabbadini's exhaustive and hard-to-find edition of the famous epistolary of Guarino da Verona (Guarino Veronese, also Guarino Guarini) (1374-1460). Guarino left relatively little written work as he was primarily a teacher (and an evidently inspiring one), but he was extremely influential in establishing the groundwork and the ethos of the Italian Renaissance, and one of the most prominent early Renaissance humanists. His written legacy consists chiefly of this large collection of letters,… Read More
