Munich: Albert Langen, 1925. With 29 text illustrations and 80 lithographs. Tan linen, covers quite faded, spine worn and portion torn (but present); text and plates very good. First trade edition (after a special edition of 200 numbered copies. Paul Gavarni (1804-1866) was the nom de plume of Sulpice Guillaume Chevalier, a French painter and print-maker most famous for his book illustrations. Fuchs (1870-1937) was a German Marxist scholar, writer and art collector whose social interests in character resulted in his collection of artists such as Gavarni and Daumier.

Jacksonville: R. Goudy, 1834. FIRST EDITION. Contemporary calf; extremities lightly rubbed, paper browned and some damp stains on the last gathering, still a very good copy with the signature of J. Russell dated November, 1834, on paste-down. First edition of this valuable guide for tourists, as well as residents, traveling through the state of Illinois and the adjacent country. Peck (1789-1858) was a pioneer, missionary, writer and journalist who traveled throughout the region in order to obtain first hand information for his publication. This work was a cornerstone of primary printed literature of the region.

Berlin: A. Hirschwald, 1865. FIRST EDITION. Original printed wrappers; an excellent copy. First edition of the famous eulogy by Virchow, summing up his great teacher's scientific abilities. Schönlein himself wrote very little; however, under his influence, Virchow became exposed to the experimental laboratory, and to physical diagnostic methods which greatly inspired him throughout life.

A "humourous" book containing wit, satire, and proverbs about insanity and feeble-mindedness. Mönkemöller (b.1867) was head physician at Hildesheim Hospital in Germany. BMC, XVII, 850 (later ed.).

Red stamped cloth with gilt title and pictorial on cover and spine, exterior slightly soiled, corners bumped, head of spine frayed. Text is toned, but clean. First American edition. This is one of two parts published, the other being a description of Western Polynesia. A fine history of Christian missions in the eastern South Pacific, about halfway between California and Australia. The work details the historical efforts of missionaries to convert the "savages" and is complete with full-page illustrations of stirring Christian triumph.

First edition of this detailed narrative of Lyon and the critical events in Missouri in 1861. The author was a member of the 8th Missouri Infantry.
