Description:
London: Sidgwick & Jackson. FIRST UK EDITION. A excellent bright and clean copy. The wrapper in particular is a sharp example with no toning or browning to the spine. It has very little loss at all and isn't price clipped. It is a remarkable survivor and a jacket in any condition is rare. The book has some damp staining to the spine although there is no evidence of this anywhere else. The pages are very clean and without foxing except for very light marks on the side text block. There is one patch of browning to the first free end paper. There is no previous owner's ink. Overall a very good or better copy. An early science / speculative fiction novel about a super-genius child and the pre-cursor to superhuman fiction.  The author's second and his most sought after. Listed in Bleiler. It is particularly rare to find this novel with the jacket and in this sort of condition.    . Very Good. Hardcover. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1911.

Description:
Jonathan Cape. London: Jonathan Cape, 1986 8vo., black publisher's cloth, backstrip lettered in gilt, with publisher's device gilt to foot; preserved in the striking unclipped pictorial dust jacket (£9.95 net), with cover illustration by Fred Marcellino, and a black-and-white photograph of the author to the lower flap; pp.[xii], 13-324, a fine copy, essentially, perhaps mildly bumped to head, and pages faintly and evenly toned, as is common; jacket clean and bright, ever-so-slightly creased to the upper edge.  First UK edition, originally published in Canada the previous year. This edition becoming increasingly more elusive.  A pioneering work of dystopian fiction, The Handmaid's Tale is told from the perspective of Offred, a Handmaid in the Republic of Gilead. In an age of declining birth rates, where women are forced to copulate against their will, and a repressive totalitarian state attempts to eradicate all hope and desire, the novel centers around themes of… Read More

Cassell. First edition of this comprehensive collection of horror short stories, edited by Alexander Laing and published by Cassell in 1937. The book and wrapper are in very good or better condition. The wrapper has wear to the spine ends and corners but is all there. There is a patch of browning to the top of the front panel. It displays the correct price of 8/6 net on the spine. The book has a gentle push to one corner and the spine ends. Overall a nice copy. The editor Laing has put together a who's who of horror short story writers, for what the publishers claim is the first illustrated omniibus of ghost stories. Algernon Blackwood, M.R. James, Arthur Machen, Edgar Allan Poe, Saki, Ambrose Bierce and Edith Wharton all contribute haunted tales. The real star of the show though is illustrator Lynd Ward who contributes 62 illustrations, either full page, vignettes or tail pieces to accompany each story.  . Very Good.
