1894. Very Good. 4 leaves containing one 5-page letter from M. H. Collins to her husband dated July 6, 1894, and one 2-page letter from their daughter, Esther Collins, dated Aug. 5, 1894. The Hotel Devon was built before 1890 on S. Lafayette St., Cape May, and consisted of two frame houses joined together (the structures were destroyed by a fire in 2001). The letterhead indicates that the hotel was being managed by Mrs. T. R. Brooks at that time. In Very Good Condition: starting to separate at a few of the folds; lightly soiled; complete.

1863. Very Good. 1 letter, Nov. 2, 1863, to Wilmore regarding Dashiell's standing as a candidate for Register of Wills of Somerset Co., Md. Dashiell is asking for the support of Wilmore and his brothers Isaac and John (no surname given). Small oval embossed stamp in corner reading "LLB & Co." John J. Dashiell (1808-1865) was a lawyer and served as Register of Wills for Somerset Co. in 1865. In Very Good Condition: 2 horizontal folds; lightly soiled; intact.

1821. Very Good -. 1 sheet folded to create 4 pages, with the letter, dated June 7, 1821, Forks of Brandywine, written on 3 pages and the address and partial wax seal on the 4th. John N. C. Grier (1792-1880) succeeded his father, Nathan Grier, as pastor of the Presbyterian Church at the Forks of the Brandywine, Chester Co., Pa., after his father's death in 1814. The recipient was probably Martha Grier Jamison (1745-1832). Grier refers to her "advanced age," implies that they are related ("near connexions"), and mentions her sister, Mrs. Ralston. In Very Good- Condition: old folds; exterior when folded is darkened and lightly soiled; small separations at folds without loss of text; one chip out of an edge, without loss of text; solid.

1814. Near Fine. On 25 March 1814 Margaret Cauffman of Philadelphia, gentlewoman, sold to Isaac Overholtzer of Norriton Township, Montgomery County, for $650 a lot of woodland of almost 5 acres in Providence Township, Montgomery Co., on the road leading from the Germantown and Perkiomen turnpike and on the Norristown Road. Signed by Margaret Cauffman; witnesses Sarah A. Cauffman, Catharine Wiseman, and Alexander J. Uhlyn; and Delaware County Judge Mark Willcox. Mark Willcox (1743-1827) was the son of Thomas Willcox (1689-1779), the founder of Ivy Mills, which produced the paper used for early currency of the United States. He continued to run the paper mill after his father's death in 1779; he also served as an associate judge for Delaware County from 1791 to 1823. His second wife was Anna Mary Cauffman, a sister of Margaret Cauffman. In Near Fine Condition; 1 x 10 cm. section lacking at lower left-hand corner, with minor loss of writing; otherwise, clean and bright.
