Bannon wrote a total of six lesbian pulp fiction novels later known known as The Beebo Brinker Chronicles. In an interview in 2003, she admitted this was her favorite of the series. Freedom March on Washington Original 33 LP Vinyl Record. First pressing, 1963. Live recording by Fox Movietone News of the historic Civil Rights protest on August 28, 1963. Album cover size 12.5" x 12.5, still in shrinkwrap. The Freedom March was where Dr. King improvised his historic "I Have a Dream" speech. Interestingly, Dr. King's written prepared speech did not include the words "I Have a Dream." He added that on the spot; that powerful moment is captured here, in the live recording. Track listing includes speeches by A. Philip Randolph, John Lewis, Whitney M. Young, and Roy Wilkins. Side B contains Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic speech; later pressings would move his segment to the top of the list. The front cover bears an image of the 200,000-person crowd outside the Washington Monument. The back carries a blurb by Otis Pollard, which reads, "From this soundtrack, 20th Century Fox Records has compiled an album of historic importance, a living record of the words and the speakers who… Read More

Description:
Ray Sprigle. In the Land of Jim Crow. New York: Simon & Schuster, 1949. First edition. Original red cloth covers. Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Ray Sprigle, backed by the NAACP, disguised himself as an African-American in order to expose the evils of segregation and racism in a 21-part nationally syndicated series of stories titled "I Was a Negro in the South for 30 Days." The series was collected for the first time in this text, In the Land of Jim Crow. Introduced by an NAACP contact to "black doctors and undertakers, to sharecroppers, and to the families of lynching victims... what Sprigle was seeing made him ashamed to be an American" (Steigerwald,1-12). Sprigle writes bluntly of the "bloodstained tragedy" of Jim Crow, where "fear walks beside the black man" and "fear was the lesson that I learned first and the lesson that I learned best in my four-week lifetime as Negro in the South." Foreword by Margaret Halsey. Serialized in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette the same year under the title, "I was a… Read More
