There is an earlier signature of A Prevost, 1874. This rare first edition is illustrated with 109 hand-coloured plates by Walter Hood Fitch, a highly-regarded botanical artist of the Victorian era. The first section of the book is text by Professor Oliver (Keepr of the Herbarium and Library at Kew) which describes the various classes of Phanerogamia (dicotyledons or exogens, and monocotyledons or endogens), and Cryptogamia (acrogens and thallogens). This copy is stamped by Higginbotham's Booksellers of Madras, a company set up by a British librarian (Abel Higginbotham) who arrived in Madras as a stowaway in the 1840s. Condition: A good plus copy. The book has faded boards but the text is in very good condition. The dustwrapper is a rare survival and is on good order bar one small hole to the spine.

He is sent to a small place called Vishnugram as a punishment after refusing to jail some Swarajists where he meets two missionaries, Alden and Findley, who share his love of Indian thought and philosophy. Condition: This copy is in good condition. There is some rubbing to the boards but the contents are in good order with secure binding and clean pages.
