Spine cloth detaching top 2 inches and bottom inch but still sound. Ex-library with remnants of library sticker bottom of spine, and a few pencilled notations internally. Binding separating at errata with threads showing and some tearing to pages by thread. Otherwise clean internally. Wraps. Bvt. Colonel Wm. E. Merrill publishes here several foreign treatises in English translation to assist American engineers in determining the best strategies to improve rivers for the benefit of use in commerce, based on the more extensive international histories. Pages 171-194 is a translation of Janicki's second letter.

A Midsummer Night's Press was founded in New Haven CT in 1991 Hand-printing on a letterpress, it published broadsides of poems by Nancy Willard, Joe Halderman, and Jane Yolen, among others, in signed, limited editions of 126 copies, numbered 1-100 and lettered A-Z. In 1993, the publisher moved to NY and the press went into hiatus. Given it's short life time we have been unable to determine how many copies of this broadside made it into circulation.

Wheeler, the second time President of the British Trichological Association. In a very dense small type, Wheeler describes in some detail the state of the science at the time, and his experience and studies with baldness and it's supposed causes. A realist, he notes: "We do not for a minute entertain the idea that Trichologists will ever make hair grow on all bald heads, any more than our best Physicians can raise the dead. These deeds are only promised by men who have not studied the hair one hour, Hairdressers and others who only sell their concoctions for gain." An interesting reference book that shows many quackery devices and talks about how many of them work. Still, a scarce book in the marketplace and a must for anyone interested in medical electricity. The first of at least 2 editions of this work published.
