Los Angeles: Savage and Savage, [1951]. 64 pages. Original black cloth stamped in silver. [22.2 cm.] Good plus in very good dust jacket. Light edge wear to boards. Top edge soiled, a little soiling to endpapers, tape mark on front free endpaper, but text is clean. Jacket is slightly wrinkled and bumped at the head of the spine panel, and shows some sun. FIRST EDITION of the author's first book. No. 39 of 999 copies numbered and signed by the author. PRESENTATION INSCRIPTION BY THE AUTHOR (unsigned), on the dedication page. Also present are a TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, an AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR, and an AUTOGRAPH POEM (unsigned), all laid-in. The presentation inscription reads: "For Eleanor Jeffrey Schoberlin, whose conversation deserves a Boswell." [18.7 cm.] Shallow chip and short (1 cm) tear to head of spine, wear and minor tear to base of spine, some light spotting and soiling to cloth. Evidence of bookplate removal from front pastedown. Front hinge starting, but holding well. Light foxing to title and prelims only. Short closed tear to one leaf (pp. 17-18) with inconspicuous archival repair. A good copy. Frontispiece dated 1919; front cover dated 1914. 139 pages, including frontispiece, plus several leaves of blank graph paper at rear. Original dark green cloth lettered in gilt. 19 x 12.5 cm. Corner of frontispiece clipped, not affecting image, else very good. Minor spotting to cloth, one word note on each of two tables (pp. 98-99), some very faint foxing. Signed by North Carolina cotton mill owner and executive, Haddon S. Mackie of Gastonia, on the front flyleaf. [Mackie was part owner of the Osceola Mill near Gastonia. Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1895. vi, 182 pages, plus frontispiece and three full-page plates by Victor A. Searles. [36] pages publisher's illustrated ads at rear. Original publisher's pictorial cloth stamped in red, silver, and gold. 19.5 x 13.5 cm. Good. Cloth is faded, especially on the spine, a bit soiled with a few stains to rear cover, and lightly worn. Name on front endpapers. Tiny bit of old marginal damping near front of book, otherwise clean internally. FIRST EDITION. Juvenile fiction describing the adventures of two boys who get lost in the Okefenokee swamp and are taken prisoner by a band of Confederate deserters. Louis Beauregard Pendleton (1861-1939), a native of Tebeauville, Georgia, was a novelist who often wrote for children, the author of a biography of Alexander Stephens, and an editorialist at the Macon "Daily Telegraph" (1899-1914). Not in Wright.

[25.7 cm.] Near fine in like jacket and slipcase. A hint of sun to the spine, slight tanning to pastedowns, dime-sized chip to lower corner of one leaf, still a nice copy. Tiny chip to head of spine panel of jacket. Small bump and tear to top of slipcase. FIRST EDITION. One of 250 copies printed. Holmes was the librarian of the William Gwinn Mather Library in Cleveland. His highly respected bibliography of Increase Mather's works was issued in two volumes the following year by Harvard University Press.

Contemporary half red morocco over beveled boards with gilt spine lettering, raised bands, and marbled endpapers. 29.5 x 23.5 cm. Ex-library with modest signs: faint impression of tiny removed call number at the base of the spine, small discard stamp on the front endpaper, and stamp of Franklin Public Library at base of the title and one other page. Else good plus. Moderate wear to the extremities, front joint started at ends, still quite sound. Several small stains on the rear cover. Tokyo: Kairyu-Do Press, 1929. [4], 152, [1] pages. Original boards with coated dark blue paper on spine and patterned gray paper on covers; gilt spine lettering and blue cover lettering. 19 x 13 cm. A very good copy in poor dust jacket. Spine ends a little rubbed, faint stains to covers. The jacket is chipped with the loss of most of the spine panel, a penny size portion of the front panel, and the top 2 cm of the rear panel. The header on the rear panel is affected, however, the publisher's priced list of books is intact. The extant portion of the spine panel is repaired on the verso. Apparent FIRST OF THIS EDITION. An early publication of the Kairyu-Do Press (sometimes styled Kairyudo), which began operating circa 1924. Previous offerings of the press included Stevenson's Kidnapped in both English and Japanese; works by Hawthorne, Hardy, and Irving; and several titles by Lafcadio Hearn.
