Description:
The scarce hardback issue of this volume of political humor that might have been the handbook for our current elections. A very clean copy, minimal spine bumping and DW fraying, internal paper somewhat browned and some glue-browning on the rear endpapers (as is common in Ballantine hardbacks of this period). A copy in cillectible condition of one of the scarcer hardbacks from this publisher (one other copy listed online when I posted this). Maybe we can draw a few out of the woodwork. A handbook for the development of a party based on greed, by the creator of Droodles. At the time, it was satire.

Description:
The first Solar Pons collection, starting Derleth's long association with Sherlock Holmes pastiches. He had already made a name for himself with Lovecraft homages, so why not branch out? Like his Lovecraftian fiction, his Sherlockian pieces show complete familiarity with both what is good and what is bad about what he's referencing: Pons' solutions are very rarely as surprising as Holmes, but Derleth is a lot better about playing fair with the reader. Derleth overestimated how many copies of this he'd ba able to sell. The colophon lists it as 3000 copies, but both 20 and 30 Years of Arkham House (and secondary sources like Jaffery) list it as 3069. I bought this copy from him well over 20 years after the book was published (circa 1969). The original jacket price of $2.50 was clipped before I got it: I would call this a "second state" jacket because the clipping appears to have been done by the publisher. Note how the clipping touches the K of "Sherlock" -- an individual would have not usually clipped… Read More

Description:
Gregg Press first hardcover edition (first printing stated) of this oddity by Niven and Pournelle. If you want the book, you already know about it. However, what makes this copy special is that it is a genuine presentation copy: a present from Larry Niven to Bill Rotsler on Rotsler's 57th birthday, and so inscribed. Very slight bumping on the spine, else an apparently unread copy. Rotsler and Niven were friends through the Los Angeles Science Fiction Society (LASFS) and LASFS gave away Rotsler's books at a convention after he died. This contains the LASFS bookmark from that give-away. I could include a photo, but all these Gregg Press books look alike!
