New York: IvisonPhnney & Co, 1860. First edition. Pictorial boards. Internally very good.. Large quarto, pictorial paper covered boards with black leather spine. Unpaginated. Title page with publisher''s ads and list of maps on verso, followed by 11 page appendix of statistics and vocabulary. There are 37 pages of maps, most of which are printed on both sides of a sheet. The last map, the Roman Empire, is double page. The covers are worn and soiled, and the spine is chipped and worn, particularly at the top. The rear joint is starting. There is a piece of the back cover missing, about 1/2" x 1 3/4". There is some dampstaining at the top edge of the pages which affects the world maps but has remarkably spared the United States. Additional pictures by request.

He suggests that Phillips write to the Mayor of Boston to secure a copy of the memorial. J. John Davis Long (1838-1915) was an American lawyer, politician, and writer from Massachusetts. He was the 32nd Governor of Massachusetts, serving from 1880 to 1883. He later served as the Secretary of the Navy from 1897 to 1902, a period that included the primarily naval Spanish-American War. As President McKinley's Secretary of the Navy, he modernized that department.
