A remarkable survival in this condition. Fell (1625 - 1686), English churchman and influential academic, served as Dean of Christ Church, Oxford, and later concomitantly as Bishop of Oxford. DISCOVERY OF THE SOURCE OF THE NILE first edition tall 8vo. xxxii, 658, [2 (advts.)], [32 (advts.)]pp., 2 coloured maps (including one large folding in pocket at rear), 26 plates including two portraits, numerous text illustrations, original deep russet-brown cloth, pictorially gilt blocked on front cover, spine lettered and decoratively blocked in gilt, frontispiece a little foxed at margins and slight off-setting on to title page, occasional scattered fox spots, very neatly recased with the original peat coloured end papers reused.
