The Newcomen Society was a distinguished honorary society, formed in England, devoted to the study of "those factors which have contributed or are contributing to the progress of Mankind" -- usually business, industry, transportation, agriculture, etc.

1905. Paperback. This unusual text is a middle school textbook for plants, and was created, according to our Japanese linguist, in the 38th year of the reign of Emperor Meija (1852-1912), who ruled from 1867 until his death -- which dates it to 1905. Laid into a small 4to portfolio (paper over heavy card stock with paper label), it is published accordion style, which unfolded measures over 15 feet in length. Very good/very good. The portfolio is age toned, rubbed and lightly soiled and has a restored hinge; the text block itself has small paper loss to the sole text page (expertly restored) and archival strengthening of some of the accordion folds (versos only). Fascinating and lovely, if cryptic, this Japanese production apparently includes some Chinese characters identifying the drawings (which include marijuana) and naming the Japanese artists. First Canadian edition of this thriller, boldly signed and inscribed by Parry in black ballpoint on the title page: "To Terry, / Best Wishes, / David Parry." Mild binding dulling and edgewear; text block slightly age toned and bowed per usual; pencilled ownership on front flyleaf. Tight and really quite nice first edition (#1435) of the boys' adventure series that began as a "Wheaties" cereal radio series by another writer before Daniels penned his 13 tales, published by the original "Big Little Books" publisher.

A tight, nice third edition of this hands-on guide -- "The Complete Guide to People, Places, Events & Products." Interesting survey of the Civil War industry as it stood in 1998.

Promotional kit for this 1966 Russian film directed by Alexander Row and starring Natalya Sedykh, Vera Altaiskaya, Georgy Millyar, Alexander Khvylia and Eduard Izotov. Consists of an 11" X 9" glossy lobby card, three 8" X 10" glossy film scenes, a 3-page press release, and sample 3" X 6" and 5" X 5" newspaper ads accompanied by (most unusual of all) the actual unused stamped pink cardboard printing plates for these same two ads. An interesting assemblage.

MacKenzie, the indomitable riverboat sleuth."
