Green fabric covered boards with gilt print on front and spine. Not bad wear for 115 years. This is a full year compilation of this magazine from 1908. There is a hinge break after the front endpaper. If there were any pages preceding the front page of the January issue, those are missing, but that is all. All 12 months seem to be intact, and the remainder of the binding seems quite solid. Owner's name on the front endpaper along with a couple of undated clippings, one being an obituary of Jack London written by Upton Sinclair. This is a very rare book, one that will ship at about four pounds. Excess shipping costs are included in the list price.

Description:
The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. Here is some information about our authors:Julian Symons:

Known for crime novels, Melville also wrote about biography, criticism, and military and social history. The author of over 40 books, Melville created five series of crime novels, ranging from two to eight novels each. Symons died in 1994. The Kentish Manor Murders is the second of two books involving Sheridan Haynes as his crime solver.James Melville:

Melville, a member of the RAF during WWII, went on to become a diplomat, spending much of his career in Japan. There he began to write about the country and its people, creating a crime novel series… Read More

Description:
Red fabric covered boards with black and yellow decoration on the front and spine and gilt print on the spine. A small smudge of something on the front, possibly paint. Wear at the corners and head and tail of the spine, fairly mild for the book's age. Pages are clean and yellowed. Stitching is still solid, but a split is forming in the front endpaper and has fully formed at the penultimate page (see photos 4 and 5). No date, but research into the publisher has led me to the conclusion that this was published about 1897. A somewhat rare edition.

A pen name of Judson Philips, a man of many detectives. Under both names, Philips published over 100 books, most of which were in one of eight different series.
