Description:
This is a very nice copy of Kim, the classic tale by Rudyard Kipling, first published in 1901. It is set in the imperialistic world; a masculine world dominated by travel, trade and adventure, and strict divisions between white and non-white. It is about the relationship between Kim, a white man born in India, and an old ascetic priest, a lama. Kim is trying to live in both cultures, while the lama seeks redemption from the Wheel of Life. It is considered to be Kipling's masterpiece.
This copy was published by MacMillan London in 1951. The dust jacket states 'Library Edition', although this is not an ex-library book.
413 pages, including a map. Aside from natural darkening of the paper, it is in mint condition.

Description:
This is a first edition of Kingsblood Royal, by the American author Sinclair Lewis (1885-1951). Lewis was the first American author to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature and the first to decline a Pulitzer Prize (for Arrowsmith—he declined because he did not agree with contests where one book or author was praised over another). His works are known for their critical views of American capitalism and materialism, and for his strong characterizations of modern working women.
Neil Kingsblood is a white middle-class man who discovers that he is directly descended from an African. He tells his friends about his ancestry, the news spreads and people behave differently toward him. He loses his banking job and is run out of his whites-only community. He is forced tochoose between continuing what he has come to see as a hollow existence in the white community and taking on the oppressed minority status of the black community. This novel is known as being 'wickedly funny'.

Description:
This is a reproduction of The Kitchen Maid, a still life done in the Hollandish style by the French master Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin (1699-1779). It was painted in 1738 and was one of the more popular pictures of its day. The subject is a young maid taking a break from her work. A scan of the original is attached; the colors in the print are purposely faded.
The print was created by the New York Graphic Society, with permission from the National Gallery of Art. It was purchased in New York in 1983 and framed the same year, in a distressed wood frame with gold interior trim. It is signed and dated by the framer.
There are a couple of tiny scratches on the front, which you can see in the photo. But there are lots of scratches in the print itself.
The total size of this piece is 17" x 21". No glass.
