An interesting collection comprising a typescript in two parts (near fine) and two books in wraps (good). The manuscript is a translation to English of Milla and Roura's stage performance of Raffles' Capture. The play appears to be in two parts, the first The Triumph of Sherlock Holmes, first performed in 1908 in Barcelona. The second part, Nobody More Powerful Than Sherlock Holmes was first performed in Barcelona in 1909. The present offering includes copies of (first editions?) both plays, published in 1912 and 1913 in Madrid. Also included is a manuscript translation of the two parts by Vivien M Flood, about whom I can find very little. Presumably the play was never published given the lack of records on WorldCat. London: R. Wilks. London, R. Wilks, 1816. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A very good copy. Three volumes, complete. An important entry in the Arthurian canon. I guess it's technically the eighth edition given the six editions between Caxton's 1485 issue and the 1634 edition published by Jacob Bloome. Then boom, like a stagecoach two centuries later, two turn up at once (actually three if you include Southey's of 1817). The Walker and Edwards edition of 1816 seems to have been published prior to this Wilks edition, though the text seems to have been prepared in 1815 given the preface. Of the three, it appears the Wilks issue sold the poorest, perhaps given the editing of all the fruity language. A collection of presumably dark fairy tales; my attempts at reading them have been thwarted by the awkwardness of Google Translate and fragility of the books, so I pass no guarantee but with titles like The Devil's Barn, The Specter of Soissons, The Headless Horseman, and Melusine's Story I think we're on the right lines. Presented without a binding as originally offered for sale; just the gatherings strung together. Those bits of string have held the books together for the last 200 years, and they're still pretty tight, but of course, the book's fragile. Some staining and chipping to the first and final leaves. Almost certainly the same block as the Chidley issue. It's also a little odd that it's marked #1 and priced 1d on the bound in wrap - perhaps it was issued in parts and this is the book form with a part wrap bound in?
