Description:
Laredo, Texas:: Tom Knapp,, N.p... Edition of 50. 11 x 8.75"; 42 pages. 10 original 5 x 7" linocuts. Case bound with paper-covered boards of Mexican handmade Mata paper. Paper title with linocut illustration on front board. Tom Knapp: "The reading about the tumultuous Cristeros uprising in western Mexico of 1927-1929 consumed many fascinating days, and the decision to create a series of images of the rebellion followed shortly. ... "The prints, by any means, do not constitute a history of the CRISTIADA, but are only images which came to mind during the reading of the material available on this very important but largely suppressed or forgotten period in the saga of the turbulent history of western Mexico. The cruel attempt to destroy the Catholic church in the country by the dictator Elias Calles left many dead on both sides of the conflict, Army and peons alike.

Brooklyn, New York:: Bone Hollow Arts,, 1992.. Edition of 12. 8.5 x 5.5"; 88 pages. Stab binding. 11x 15" folded map laid in. Louise Neaderland: "The artist was visiting a friend in St. Petersburg in August of 1991 at the time of the coup. She managed to take many photographs of what was happening on the streets and came across a series of picture post cards of 1914 St. Petersburg. This book documents the scene in St. Petersburg during the coup of August 9, 1991, contrasts it with the 1914 images, and adds news clippings, conspicuously not from Russian news media, which barely mentioned what was going on.

Jules Remedios Faye, Preface: "I sent out an invitation which offered to document present printing history by publishing a sampler of women's work in the relief printing, private press and book arts fields.
Not only was I interested in collecting the work of this disparate group, I also wanted to investigate why they became printers, why they chose letterpress. "The order in which the signatures in this book are placed is entirely a subjective arrangement based on a visual sense of harmony rather than groupings based on thematic content, or arranged alphabetically, for…

Northwest Museum of Art: "Ellen Sollod explores Seattle's Lake Washington and the effect upon its shores, wetlands, and tributaries due to the 1916 construction of the Ballard Locks and the digging of the Montlake Cut. Like a palimpsest, different environmental histories were written and erased, and new ones inscribed atop and around the Lake. Sollod uncovers these layers in an exhibition that charts the history of the massive project and its ripple effects over decades, with large-scale pinhole photographs, maps, statistics, and sound recordings. The exhibition is held in conjunction with the release of Ellen Sollod's book, Lake…

Helen Hiebert: "'LandEscape' began with drawings twisted (literally) in string that established a collaborative landscape realized over two years of conversation and trust. Helen Hiebert created watermarked illustrations in an artist-made cotton/abaca paper, and Karen Kunc responded by producing a woodcut image that interacts with the watermarks, fitting into spaces, overlapping, making edges, and saturating them with color. Paper and print are meant to intrigue with shadows and illusions." Karen Kunc: "I am interested in evocative inferences about how we have come to live with nature-the shaping…

Wahington DC:: Abstract Orange,, 2019.. Edition of 36. 5.25 x 7.25" case bound box with foldout to form triptych. Text and image letterpress printed. Designed and printed by Lauren Emeritz. Signed and numbered by the artist. Leaves of Grass, Abstract Orange Edition" was published on May 31, 2019 in celebration of Walt Whitman's 200th birthday. Lauren Emeritz: "The book explores ideas central to Walt Whitman's 'Leaves of Grass' including transcendentalism, or the inherent goodness of nature, and realism, depicting familiar things as they are. It captures both the complexity and simplicity of nature by juxtaposing dimensional paper grass texture and a quote about nature and wonder. The book is not a reprinting of all of Whitman's words but an art object that encapsulates the feeling of Whitman." Although the box opens like a traditional book it becomes a triptych. The focus is the center which is a "shadow box" with several rows of cut…

Signed and numbered. Dirk Hagner: "The Lepidoptera series of 11 original prints roots in eastern and western sensibilities, and mythological notions of male-female attraction. It is realized by using gestural spontaneity and the graphic precision of printmaking. The project started with drawings for the woodcuts of the female figure, celebrated in art since the renaissance, and ink brush paintings for the making of aquatint lepidoptera (butterflies and moths) imagery. Asemic writing, printed from relief etchings, provide rhythmic compositional counterpoints. The addition of wood type letterpress outside the chine collé image area expands the visual to the entire page while the rich flat black screen-printed strips at its boundaries…

The term was used for tools in French lacemaking as well as Scottish shepherd's knitting, both of which are precursors to modern crochet. The modern crochet hook was perfected in the 1830's in England. Not until the 1940's, did crochet become popular in America because of the renewed interest in home crafts. In the 1970's granny squares were popularized, often with bright colours. "As far as I can remember, I have been working with wool. When I was a night nurse in Montreal, I decided to teach myself…

Digital print on vellum paper. The origami structures are constructed from organdi and tea chest papers. Seiko Tachibana from the Colophon: Letter in the Wind is a book about poetrythe poetry of language itself. There is a familiar Japanese phrase, which literally translated become I heard it from a letter in the wind.
More precisely, the phrase means the wind delivered a message to me, or as the common English saying goes, a little bird told me. This book is comprised of 16 Japanese words, each realized in the form of a card. These 16 words are themselves constructed from two separate words: the Japanese word for wind and one other word, which when combined create an entirely new term whose meaning relates in some way to the wind.…
