Description:
Engraved, hand colored, decorative cartouche, ample margins, 43.7 x 30 cm (17 1/2" x 12"). Minor aging and slight browning; otherwise very good, bright and with a strong impression. Janivier was a French geographer that was active in the second half of the 18th century. According to Norwich and Tooley, Janivier produced a series of maps in 1760, and collaborated in an Atlas Moderne in 1762 and 1771.The present map is number 28 from that atlas. This rather handsome engraved map, which has full color, appears to present the cartographic knowledge of Africa in the mid 18th century. The map is fairly accurate, and shows the only settlements in southern Africa, and also features a few Hottentot tribes. The cartouche, which is in the lower left part of the map, shows a few tress, a leopard stalking, and a crocodile near the bottom. Norwich 104. Tooley p. 59.

Description:
Engraved map, slight outline coloring, decorative rococo boarder with landscape style, cartouche, 12" x 10.7". Decent margins, but bottom margin a little narrow, minor aging, light pencil notation in right margin; overall in excellent condition with a very strong impression. While the interior of the map doesn't show a substantial amount of geographical detail, this appears typical of the period. There are some large rivers and lakes that are identified. The Nile appears to rise from two small lakes in the Mts, de la Lune above the Equator. In the south there aren't a lot of places named, but there are still some tribal names present.

Description:
Double page engraved map (28" x 20"), hand colored in outline, uncolored pictorial and title cartouche. Some meaningful foxing, especially in margins, wide margins, some wear at top and bottom of centerfold, mild creasing, lower left corner missing, but well away from map; strong impression. Robert De Vaugondy (1688-1766) was one of the leading cartographers in 18th century France. This map illustrates the African continent around 1756. Reflecting the available knowledge at the time, the map doesn't show as much detail in some portions of the interior, and tribal names are used in some areas. However, according to Norwich, the lakes and rivers appear quite accurate. The cartouche on this map illustrates a native woman reclining between two palm trees with a lion at her feet. Norwich 94.

Description:
Double page engraved map (29" x 21"), hand colored in outline, decorative cartouche. Some chips and tears in margins, but margins are wide, a little creasing around the centerfold, minor aging; otherwise about very good, bright and with a strong impression. Janvier was a French geographer that was active in the second half of the 18th century. According to Norwich and Tooley, Janvier produced a series of maps in 1760, and collaborated in an Atlas Moderne in 1762 and 1771.The present map is number 28 from that atlas. This rather handsome engraved map, which has full color, appears to present the cartographic knowledge of Africa in the mid 18th century. The present map was originally published in 1762, in a slightly smaller version. However, this edition appears to have has greater detail, and this is especially true in the interior and southern portion of the continent. There is a decorative cartouche in the upper left corner that features a lion coming out of the jungle. Norwich 104. Tooley p. 59.

Description:
Engraved double page map, 28" x 20", wide margins, hand colored in outline, two uncolored pictorial cartouches. Expert and nearly invisible repairs along centerfold, normal aging; about near fine. Impression is bright and clean. Nicholas De Fer (1646-1720) was a highly respected and prolific French cartographer whose maps were valued for their decorative appeal. Around 1690 he was made the geographer to the Dauphin, and published his first atlas. He would become geographer to other high-ranking individuals in French and Spanish society. The present map is detailed and attractive map of Asia, with a cartouche showing Chinese at the upper left, and Indians in the upper right. The map covers a lot of territory showing Arabia and the Persian Empire in the West, and Japan in the east, but goes as far south as the Isle of Borneo and Java. Part of Eastern Europe is also visible. Library missouri website.

This pamphlet shows how George Washington wanted his estate used. He had a particular interest in the education of American youth, who he felt were often forced to go abroad to be educated. The work also gives a breakdown of Washington's assets and where they were located.

Creased, a few small holes, mostly at folds, very slight effect on one word, some edgewear, a little browning and soiling; otherwise very good. This document appears to be a rental agreement for some land in Plattsburgh between Charles Platt and Thomas McCurdy. While the document is mostly printed, there are six lines of hand written text describing the location of land involved with this transaction.
