Paris: Libraires Associe's pour les Usages du Diocese d'Evreux, 1741. Hardcover. Very good. 12mo. 477,(1)pp. Woodcut of episcopal arms on title page. Contemporary full calf. Spine in six compartments, with raised bands. The compartments are gilt with floral tools, except the second, which contains the title. Marbled endpapers. Corners and hinge neatly mended, slight loss of head of spine and at lower hinge, leather rubbed, else a very good copy. Ownership inscription dated 1766 on the title page. Text is in French and Latin in two columns. The final leaf is an approbation certifying that the text comports with the Breviary and Missal of the Use of D'Evreux. Scarce. No copies of this Use found in OCLC.

When bound, blank pages of graph paper were included, some of which have been used for extensive notes on the book. Pencil corrections (?) on some pages with machine specifications, many notes in a neat hand in French, clearly this book had a previous owner who had significant knowledge of the subject. Tabs have been added by the previous owner on added pages. Added pages include samples of thread each about 1 by 2 inches. Also some fabric swatches. Introduction and notes by Thomas Wright, The Introduction is of bibliographical importance as it sketches the history of the early editions of Malory: Caxton (one complete copy; one incomplete); de Worde (two editions, one copy of each known); Copland; East; and finally the edition of 1634. Each volume with the engraved circular bookplate of Emily Morris Gallatin on the front pastedowns. The simple signature of Arthur Lewis, 1949, on each of the front free endpapers. And on the front free endpaper of volume 1 a nearly full page inscription dated 2018. Only volume 1 has been fully opened; the remaining volumes are partially unopened. The spine tips and folds have been professionally and unobtrusively repaired; it has a fine appearance, with only a little soil and toning from age. .
