Lendinara: Dalla tipografia Michelini, 1804. Original edition. Very Good. Octavo (17 cm); 16 pages. In woodblock-printed floral-patterned wraps in red, white, and green, coloring hand-finished. A rhapsody written for the appointment of one Lodovico Bonardi to head the monastery attached to the Chiesa della Santissima Trinità in Monte Oliveto, in central Verona. The verses, by the abbot Lorenzo Mischiati, bear affinity with Dante's Paradiso but also with the lyrics of the 20th-century popular song Volare: the poet takes flight into the upper spheres and sees beautiful "sisters" as well as genies and heroes who sing the praises of the new abbot. Inconsequential to be sure, but interesting, and bound in extraordinarily lovely wraps.

Bound in publisher's pasteboard decorated in tortoise shell patterns ("carta tartarugata"), with printed paper labels on spines. Pages bright, fresh, and untrimmed. Binding somewhat abraded along joints, with some slight separation at tail of volume 1. Remarkably well-preserved set in unsophisticated state. In contemporary vellum over boards, worn, with small cross-shaped laceration on upper board and small abrasion on spine. Utility paper stock has toned, and first and last leaves are not without stains. References: Michel, II, p. 274, #5; Carnelos, "I libri da risma," #56; "Remondini: un editore del settecento" p.307, # 7;BL Italian 17th century, p. 128 (1678 ed.). Venetian laws prevented provincial publishers like Remondini to print important books or first editions. Despite the restriction, the house of Remondini made a fortune from "libri da risma," popular reading printed on cheap paper and distributed to booksellers in sheets. Bound in 19th-century marbled wraps, titled in manuscript on spine. Untrimmed. Wraps frayed at edges, joints, spine ends, and over cords. Some pages yellowed. Eighteenth-century edition of Virgilian imitations by Luigi Alamanni (1495-1556). Alamanni wrote his elegant "La Coltivazione" while in exile for anti-Medici leanings. The "Tuscan Epigrams" comprise the last 30 pages.

Italia: n.p., 1835. Very Good. 19 cm; 20 pages (three blank), including 7 full-page illustrations with captions. Text and illustrations lithographed throughout. Bound in (later?) plain wraps. Not in Melzi. No copies located. Apparently unrecorded booklet with text and illustrations produced completely in lithograph. The text reproduces an italic calligraphy that must have been lettered in reverse on stone, or written out on transfer paper before being applied to the lithographic stone. The narrative concerns a lady who is handily juggling simultaneous affairs with a young man and with the young man's father.
