Description:
This is what I think is a printer's proof of the dance music for La Mattchiche (La Maxixe). It still bears perforation marks, bits of the untrimmed paper, and some of the pieces (not the cover) are marked 'Specimen'.
It's too big to fit on the scanner.
Getty Images is currently selling just the cover image for $575.00.
La Mattchiche (La Maxixe) was known as the 'Brazilian Tango' which, in 1905, was all the rage in Paris. In April 1906, Hachette published this for sale in France, printing on the cover: 'La Mattchiche (La Maxixe) Le Grand Succes Parisien De 1905 (with dance figures) Spanischer Marsch' by M Eugenio and Borel-Clerc.'
It won Columbia Records' Grand Prize in 1905.
The piece was written/arranged by the French composer Charles Borel-Clerc (1879-1959).
Mr Eugenio was the Dance Master at d'Alcazar d'Ete, a Café-concert which opened in 1869, at 8 Avenue Gabriel, and closed in 1914. The two women on the cover are the actresses & dancers Paule Morly (1881-1926) and Marthe Derminy… Read More

This is a stated first edition, and first US printing, of Last Essays, by Joseph Conrad. It was published in 1926 and includes 'Legends', the essay he was working on when he died (of a heart attack). It also includes a photo of the hand-written text of 'Legends'; these are the last words he wrote.
As you can see, this book originally belonged to the B'Nai Brith Hill Foundation of Toronto, which stamped the front and back endpapers and put a memorial bookplate on the inside front cover.
171 pages, mostly unadorned.
The binding has been split in the center but is otherwise nice and tight.
Dark blue boards with gold on the cover; there was gold on the spine but it has worn away.
There are the expected little spots here and there but, overall, it's in excellent condition.

The Last of the Mohicans: A Narrative of 1757 is a historical novel written by James Fenimore Cooper in 1826.
It is the second book of the Leatherstocking Tales pentalogy and the best known to contemporary audiences. The Pathfinder, published 14 years later in 1840, is its sequel. The Last of the Mohicans is set in 1757, during the French and Indian War (the Seven Years' War), when France and Great Britain battled for control of North America. During this war, both the French and the British used Native American allies, but the French were particularly dependent, as they were outnumbered in the Northeast frontier… Read More

The Last Tycoon is the unfinished novel of the American writer F Scott Fitzgerald (1896-1940), who was writing it when he died. It is about an ambitious workaholic Hollywood producer. Scribner's was Fitzgerald's publisher; after his death, Scribner's reprinted all of his works, all in this black and blue theme. This is a first edition from that set, printed in 1969. The previous copies were in the glossy boards; this book's covers are matte fabric. It does not appear to have been read. Description:
The Laugh's On Me is the 12th best-selling book by American writer Bennett Cerf (1898-1971), the founder of Random House. By this time, he was one of the What's My Line? panelists.
It is "a humorous collection of 2000 stories, anecdotes and amiable observations." With several small illustrations by Doug Anderson. Published by Doubleday, 1959.
This copy is in good shape, although it has binding issues. The binding is too tight in some areas, and has cracked open in the center--I suspect that it was so tightly-bound that the original owner did that so he could read it. But it hasn't been thoroughly read.480 pages, bright yellow boards with black lettering on the spine. No dust jacket. There are fingerprints here and there and a tiny ink mark on the cover (see photo). The spine has darkened somewhat. But you can clean it with Absorene.
I couldn't find any copies of this book anywhere else--it's rare. So it would be worth it to have it fixed up.

Description:
This is a first edition (I think--see image 5) of Let the Sea Make a Noise, A History of the North Pacific from Magellan to MacArthur, written by the American Historian Walter McDougall.
From a review:
In this exceptionally innovative work, Walter McDougall projects on a large screen four hundred years of exciting voyages of discovery, pioneering feats, engineering marvels, political plots and business chicanery, racial clashes and brutal wars. It is a chronicle complete with little-known facts and turning points, but always focused on the remarkable people at the center of events, among them the America-loving Japanese ambassador to Washington on the eve of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the Russian builder of the Trans-Siberian Railway, and a Hawaiian queen during the first period of Western competition for the islands.Let the Sea Make a Noise . . . is a gripping account of the rise and fall of the empires in the last, vast, unexplored corner of the habitable earth -- an area occupying one-sixth of the… Read More

Description:
Life With Father is a collection of short stories by the American author and cartoonist Clarence Day (1874-1935), published just after his death in 1936.
Day wrote humorously about his family and life. The stories of his father were first printed in the New Yorker magazine. They portray a rambunctious, overburdened Wall Street broker who demands that everything from his family should be just so. The more he rails against his staff, his cook, his wife, his horse, salesmen, holidays, his children and the inability of the world to live up to his impossible standards, the more comical and lovable he becomes to his own family who love him despite it all. It is a picture of New York upper-middle-class family life in the 1890s.
In 1939, the book was turned into a play. The Broadway production ran for more than seven years to become the longest-running non-musical play on Broadway, a record that it still holds. The play was adapted into a 1947 feature film and a television series.

Description:
This is a first edition of Lightly Poached, a 1973 novel written by Lillian Beckwith (1916-2004). Beckwith was English but, in the late 50s, she moved to the Hebrides of Scotland and lived there for 20 years, mainly on the Isle of Skye. She wrote 7 books about her experiences. They're semi-autobiographical, and mostly fiction. They are quite funny and were extremely popular. This is an online synopsis:
'The Lord puts the salmon in the river like he puts the berries on the trees. They're there for all of us, not just for the laird.' The way the Bruachites saw it, poaching wasn't a crime though you did have to keep an eye out for the local police. And it wasn't just fishermen like Erchy and Hector who were experts – even a visiting vicar had been tempted by the fat salmon that filled the island's streams and pools.
Like Lillian Beckwith's other books about life in the Hebrides, Lightly Poached is packed with the enchanting and hilarious adventures of her island friends."

Description:
This is a trade paperback of The Liri Valley: Canada's WWII Breakthrough to Rome, written by the Canadian military historian Mark Zuehlke.
For the Allied Armies fighting their way up the Italian boot in early 1944. Rome was the prize that could only be won through one of the greatest offensives of the war. It is a gripping story of courage in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
The Liri Valley was a long, flat corridor through miles of rugged mountains. At one end stood the formidable Monte Cassino, at the other, Rome. In May 1944, I Canadian Corps drops up this valley toward the Italian capital, facing the infamous Hitler Line -- a bastion of concrete bunkers fronted by wide swaths of tangled barbed wire, minefields, and "Tobruk" weapon pits. The ensuing battle resulted in Canada's single bloodiest day of the Italian campaign. But the sacrifice of young Canadians during the twenty-four days of relentless combat it took to clear the valley paved the way for the Allies to take Rome. The Liri… Read More
