In Alfred Stieglitz's Camera Notes, Christian Peterson said this about Farnsworth, "In late 1897 her work comprised the second one-person exhibition to be seen at the Camera Club of New York, and a few years later her one Camera Notes gravure appeared." At the Paris Exposition of 1900 her work was included in a special exhibition of American women photographers arranged by Frances Benjamin Johnston. By Farnsworth's own account, she had by this time taken upwards of twenty-five medals in the United States, Canada, England, France, Germany, Italy, and India." Description:
New York: N. D. C. Hodges, Publisher, 1891. 513 pages and 20+ black and white illustrations, 13 maps (one folding). Alpheus Spring Packard (1839-1905) was a zoologist and geologist at Brown University for most of his professional life and is now most celebrated as an entomologist. Before that distinguished career, he was invited to travel and study on two expeditions to Labrador--the first in 1860 between his junior and senior years at Bowdoin College, the second in 1864 after receiving his MD at Bowdoin. His notes and journals must have been highly detailed because they enabled him to produce this extensive report almost 30 years later. On the front free endpaper Packard's wife signed and inscribed the book to her niece Fanny in June 1914. The book is in about very good condition: generally clean and tight, with a small water stain at the foot of the front hinge and the first few leaves; pages lightly toned; tiny bit of cloth loss at head and foot of spine.. SIGNED. First Edition.… Read More

Description:
London: William S. Orr & Co., 1848. This is not a complete book--it is a single sheet containing an original antique hand-colored botanical print. Joseph Paxton was perhaps the most significant 19th century English botanist, the designer of the famed Crystal Palace, and the editor of Paxton's Magazine of Botany and Register of Flowering Plants. This print is from the 14th volume of that magazine, published in 1848. Drawn and lithographed by Samuel Holden, it is a superb brilliantly-colored example of the flowers in the magazine. The lithograph is accompanied by the original text pages explaining the origin, cultivation, and uses of the flower. The print is clean and bright, with a hint of toning of the background and the usual stab holes along the binding edge.. First Edition. Paper. Collectible-Fine. Illus. by Samuel Holden. 9" by 6 3/8". Fine Art Print.

Description:
London: Fortescue Mann, 1896. There is some debate over whether the London views by Fortescue Mann were taken by John Fortescue Mann (1848-1897) or by his son Reginald Fortescue Mann (1881-1916). David Simkin (Sussex Photo History) attributes them to the father while Douglas Heil (The Art of Stereography) attributes them to the son. Both acknowledge that the latter would have been quite a prodigy to have created these fine images at the age of 15 in 1896. From the collection of Robert N. Dennis. Please note that my scanner does not do well with glass stereoviews. All of the glass views I have listed for this fair have superb images, especially when observed through a stereoscope.. First Edition. Glass. Collectible-Very Good. Illus. by Fortescue Mann. 3 1/4" by 6 3/4". Photo.

Paris: Chez Sanson, 1657. Image is 8 1/8 inches by 11 inches on a folded sheet measuring 9 inches by 12 13/16 inches. Original hand-colored copper-engraved map from Sanson's atlas of maps of the Americas: L'Amerique en Plusieurs Cartes. It is a map of the Viceroyalty of Peru that displays the Amazon River and its many tributaries. Nicolas Sanson (1600-1667) was the official geographer for the king of France. His map of Peru and the Amazon became the standard that was copied by almost all geographers/cartographers--even reproduced by Bion for his 1700 treatise on globes. Cintra and Oliveira argue that Sanson's map was a scientific one that holds up well, even when compared to 21st century maps of the region. The map is in about very good condition: clean, with bright original outline color; minimal foxing ; some edgewear and soiling in the margins. . First Edition. Single Sheet.
