With centered watermark of Leonardo Da Vinci, the image roughly 4 x 5 1/4 inches. A touch of wear and minor folding at extremities, an excellent example. Variously called shadowmarks, light-and-shade watermarks, or chiaroscuro watermarks, each design is a work of art that may take months to perfect. Julie L. Mellby at Princeton University Library Graphic Arts on July 26, 2010 posted the following about a different design in their collection: "This sheet of handmade paper comes from the Fabriano Paper Mill in Milan. In regular light, it looks like a blank sheet but when you hold it to the light, the watermark becomes visible. The image...comes from the variations in thinness or thickness in the paper. Publisher's thin cloth covered boards, with blind-stamped decorations and gilt stamped spine. Minor wear to the extremities, a sound clean copy with mild foxing throughout. Very occasional illustration. The first volume of what appears to be an eventual six volumes of this periodical which ran from 1837-1842. Although a periodical (and self-referred as such throughout), there are no separate mastheads or wrappers in this volume, just 12 "issues" with pages headed "Library of Health" and continuous pagination throughout. On one such page there is evidence of what may have been original wrappers removed (page 41). Between 2009 and 2014 Mark Davis of MDTV produced two documentaries about the Curiosity Rover Mission (aka Mars Science Laboratory). One for National Geographic (MARTIAN MEGA ROVER, aired August 2012) ) and one for Discovery Channel (RED PLANET ROVER, aired December 2014). During the time that MDTV was gathering primary source material at JPL, a poster project was commissioned by Project Scientist John Grotzinger of Caltech/JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) at the suggestion of JPL engineer Adam Steltzner who envisioned them as motivational posters to be displayed in the areas where the rovers were being built, modeled on similar types of war effort posters from the WWII era. Half calf over marbled boards. 7 3/8 x 5 inches. Light browning to pages, several pages with soiling. Boards. The titles translate roughly to: "The Photochromie, print photographic color prints BOUND WITH The Photography of Color" Ogonowski's title addresses Photochromie, it's process and application. The second work by Clerc, "La Photographie des Couleurs" is part of the series entitled "Encyclopédie scientifique des aide-mémoire" and includes discussions of various known experimenters and their experiences. This example lacks the 32 pages of advertisements found in some copies.

Bookplate of Dr. Sydney Ross. Inked signature on page 1 "Petrus Guichard", and with stamp of Pharmacie Despech Guichard, Succr on title page. Extensively annotated throughout in pencil, presumably in the hand of Guichard. Marginal notations as well as tipped in sheets, all done in a manner that the text can be read and notes folded out of the way. A previous dealer listing (included) suggests the signature and annotations are likely one Pierre Guichard, b1840 (author of various chemical works). Boards.

The corner building is the College of Physicians & Surgeons, at 303 4th Ave and 23rd street, chartered in 1807, andserving as the Medical Department of Columbia University from June 1860 onward. We think the outer form was correct, but the inner form containing pages 2, 15, 14, 3, 6, 11, 10 and 7 was rotated 180 degrees in the press so that page 6 and page 2 were "swapped", pages 11 and 15 swapped, pages 10 and 14 swapped, and pages 7 and 3 swapped. This results in the pages and signature E being out of order (the first four leaves have signatures E, E[4] ,E[3], E[2]). 8vo (5 x 7 3/4 inches).
