William Morrow, 1935 Bound id decorative blue cloth, 398pp. The story of a 13 year old boy who went to sea on a whaling ship. This copy retains the bound in bookmark, a harpoon being thrown into the sea]. Spine is slightly darkened, spot on the fore edge of text only, not on any opened page except the rear end paper. Nice solid copy.

Easton Press, 1978 Bound in navy blue leather with moire endpapers and silk bookmark. One of the 100 Greatest Books Ever Written series. This with a slight bump to the top corner of the text block, else as new.

New York: Jonathan Cape and Harrison Smith, 1930 Clean tight copy with black and white decorations over blue cloth. Book has bumped corners and is very slightly cocked. Jacket is foxed and shows holes from insect activity [not affecting the book in any way], a chip at the head of spine and a 1" closed tear at the bottom of the front fold.

Doubleday, Page, , 1927 Near fine, no jacket. Stated first edition with one corner bumped, offsetting to one corner of two pages.

Reilly & Lee, 1946 Bright paste down on gray cloth. This a solid very good with corners the lightest bit bumped and the slightest trace of rubbing to the pictorial pastedown. Internally I find no stray marks, name, or even finger smudges. Endpapers are cream and green, Reilly & Lee in fairly fancy script. First edition per Hanff & Greene.

Volland, 1922 A clean tight copy of this scarce Gruelle title that has corners rounded, front hinge starting and 11 of 12 plates present. There is a damp stain on the inner margin fo the first few pages, one illustration is neatly colered and one page has a large closed tear.

Reilly & Lee, 1946 Bound in light gray cloth with pictorial pastedown on front cover, 242 pp. Printed on white stock with cream colored end papers printed in green. This copy with all first state points perHanff & Greene. The ownership page is filled in with a Christmas 1946 inscription. Also, a small binding error on the inside back cover where a small triangular piece of the cover lining was bound folded over 1/2 by 1/4".

Little Brown, 1927 Published in February, 1927, this copy is bound in maroon cloth with gilt lettering. trace of wear at the extremities, a nice bright copy.

Portland: Brown Thurston & Co., 1887 This is the original hardcover book, not a reprint, 894 pages plus indexes. I purchased from a Maine doctor's estate auction, oddly enough in Indiana. He had willed the proceeds to a church. Book shows some edgewear and a little fading to the spine but a good solid copy.

Chicago: Henry M Sherwood, 1865 Bound in brown cloth with gilt spine titles, 477 pp. plus 3 pp ads. This copy with chipping at the gutters, shelf wear, spine titles rubbed. Contents quite bright and clean in near fine condition.

Dutton Bound in red cloth with gold and black decorations, 271 plus 32 pp ads, Fifth thousand. c 1884 children's novel with minor wear to the covers, interior fine. Title page has the London firm of Griffith & Farran as publishers but tail of spine has Dutton. Sharp copy of a juvenile book.

Philadelphia: Hubbard Publishing Co., 1882 This is a 516 pp book with many illustrations including one large fold out and is bound in 1/2 leather over green beveled boards. The fold out is improperly folded and has a tear and the back strip is missing from the spine. The contents are in very good condition.

New York : William Wood & Co., 1884 Bound in mustard colored sloth with bright gilt spine titles, xi, 292 pp.This illustrated with nine chromolithographs [including frontis] and numerous black and white illustrations within the text. Color lithos by H Benke. Color plates are magnificent. Book is superior to most copies from this era. As to faults, there is rubbing to the spine extremities, ink name on tp, and offsetting from the color plates to adjacent pages.

Philadelphia: Thomas Desilver, 1828 Translated with notes by William Coulson. An attractive copy bound in mottled calf with gold spine bands and red leather label. The front endpapers have a corner crease and one is missing a corne chip. There is a scuff that damages the middle of the spine label, and small scuff marks on back cover. Gilt spine bands are quite bright. An attractive copy with the damage to the spine label as the only visual detriment. Minimal foxing internally, 382 pages. Leather has been treated with Fredelka formula preservative.

New York and London: Birmingham & Co, 1883 Bound in green cloth with gilt spine titles, 380 pp. Covers are rubbed with wear to the extremities, titles bright, two leaves creased, slightly shaken. A good copy.

New York : Appleton, 1878 Bound in brown cloth with gilt titles, 388 pp., plus 32 pp. ads dated 1877. Chip at spine head and some fading to spine, the slightest bit of foxing to the first six leaves, a bright, tight copy.

Harper, 1853 The author was a professor of the Greek and Latin languages at Columbia College. The purpose of this book was to make the study of Greek literature more accessible to American students as previous works were either too expensive or written in foreign languages. Bound in comtemporary leather with both gutters splitting but boards still attached, leather chipped at the spine. Book is ex-seminary library with various stamps on the title page and verso and scattered foxing throughout. A good clean copy.

Lea & Febiger, 1909 This is a 410 page book plus index, illustrated with 150 engravings of pharmaceutical implements. Gilt on spine is bright, corners lightly bumped, front hinge is starting. There are a few light pencil notations throughout and a formula for a molecule in ink on the title page.
