Planck's discovery of energy quanta won him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1918. Planck's fame as a physicist rests primarily on his role as the originator of quantum theory. Gruneisen was, with Max Planck, editor of Annalen der Physik. This appears to be an address, a tribute by Gruneisen to Planck's life and work. Planck died in October, 1947.
