Outer joints rubbed with some minor splitting, but holding, rubbed to extremities. Internally text is browned throughout, a few instances of small tears and chips to edges. Slightly later half calf and marbled paper over boards, smooth back divided into six panels by gilt rolls, lacking title label to second panel, remaining panels with indistinct fleuron tool in gilt. Heavily rubbed to extremities, upper joint split but holding, marbled paper covering boards is chipped to edges with some loss. Internally the text is browned and occasionally foxed throughout, plates are brighter and cleaner, though plate twenty-three has a damp stain just catching the vignette. Long inscription in pencil to second front free endpaper. With additional engraved title page by William Henry Pyne after Nattes which has been bound after the letterpress title, and forty-five plates (numbered 1-44 with two plate 23's). Slightly later half calf and marbled paper over boards, smooth back, divided into seven panels by gilt rules, title label to second panel. Outer joints slightly split and repaired with coloured Japanese tissue, inner joints also strengthened with Japanese tissue, slightly rubbed to extremities. Internally some light browning and occasional foxing throughout, map and several plates with off-setting, couple of small nicks to page edges, small tear to map. Complete with double-page map and thirty, (actually thirty-one, with two copies of plate 23), full-page uncoloured engravings, twenty-two of which are botanical, by G. D. Ehret (For Ehret, see Alexander, page 321) and G. Bickham (for Bickham, see Alexander, pages 115-116). Slightly later full straight grain morocco, smooth back divided into six panels by gilt rules, title in gilt to second panel, remaining panels with central cross with dots to corners, covers with an intersecting frame with flower head corner pieces and gilt rolls to sides, gilt roll to edges and inner edges, a.e.g., with small amount of gauffering, yellow endpapers. Rubbed to extremities, covers very slightly faded, small amounts of loss to leather to lower cover. Internally quite bright and clean, previous owners name to front pastedown, with book label to reverse of ffep. From the library of Lord Eldon. Paris: Jodocus Badius Ascensius, 1530. Two works bound as one, 'Noctium Atticarum', a8, a8-s8, published in 1530 and Mosellanus' (Peter Schade) 'Annotationes', a-b8, c-d6, published in 1528. Later (early seventeenth century) morocco, raised bands, spine in seven panels, title label to second panel, remaining panels with repeated fleur-de-lis tools, covers with rolled border, repeated fleur-de-lis tools and a central coat of arms of the College de Grassin [Olivier 1973]. Later rebacked preserving original back strip, repairs to corners and new endpapers. Internally browned and lightly damp stained, occasionally heavier (signatures r and s), with a few pages having staining to bottom margin, a few minor paper repairs, one or two small nicks and tears, single worm hole to bottom margin to M, quite large worm tracks to bottom margin of O and P, reducing down to a single worm hole again by the end of P until the end. Slightly rubbed to extremities, with small chip to head of upper joint. Internally quite bright and clean, with Earl Eldon's name and bookplate to front pastedown. Text printed in double column and in Greek. First Thus. Full Calf. Good+. 8vo.

[12], 56pp, [8], original quarter cloth and decorated boards, the upper cover with a pictorial design in colour of Alice asleep and dreaming beneath a tree, signed 'E.G. Thomson', the lower cover with a picture of the March Hare in the centre, and the initials 'E.G.T.'. Cloth to spine repaired, with small splits to head of upper joint, corners bumped with small amounts of loss, slightly rubbed with very light soiling. Internally very lightly browned, lacking tissue guard to frontispiece, but generally clean and fairly bright. Now housed in a black buckram chemise and slipcase, with title and author in gilt to spine. Inscribed by Carroll, in his usual purple ink to half title, being one of one hundred presentation copies (see Williams, Madan, Green and Crutch, page 162), 'For Nina from the author, Mar. 25 1890'.
