Dick Francis was a RAF pilot during WW2, a successful steeplechase jockey, and crime writer, whose works deal with crimes in the horse-racing world, producing more than 40 best-sellers. Part of the "New" Wizard of Oz covers that began in 1903 after the original publication (and first state cover with Lion) in 1900. First US Edition, First Impression. Very good dust jacket with the front panel clean and unfaded, but showing wear at the top edge. The spine is toned. It is lightly rubbed and scuffed at the ends. The back panel is bright, showing gentle wear at the top edge. Looks sharp in protective plastic. Internally bright and tight. Clean boards with a touch of light mottling to the leading edge of the back board. The spine ends are gently rubbed. The pages are bright and clean. The closed page edges are unmarked. The red top stain is bright. A nice copy.

Missing the very rare dust jacket. Cover a bit soiled, with cover gilt bright, but dull on the spine. Internally fine, clean and bright. Overall, a very nice copy.
