Description:
New York: Albert & Charles Boni, 1925. The book is signed by Ernest Hemingway in the upper right corner of the front free endpaper and is, in all likelihood, from the personal library of Hemingway. Hemingway had worked for Ford on the staff of the Transatlantic Review in 1924, the year before this book was published. It was purchased (by Hemingway?) from the iconic Holliday Bookstore (note the label on the rear pastedown endpaper). Provenance: I purchased the book 25 years ago from the estate of a Jacksonville, Florida book collector, and it has been in my personal collection since then. The book is a second printing in about good condition: there is some waviness of pages--perhaps damaged when Hemingway was "deaccessioning" it from his Key West home when he was at the apogee of his personal feud with Ford?. SIGNED. 2nd Printing. Hardcover. Good. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Book.

Description:
Washington, D. C.: Government Printing Office, 1967. 245 pages. Personally signed by President Johnson on a bookplate that includes the presentation written in calligraphy (probably by Sanford Fox, Chief of the White House Social Entertainments Office): "To Carl Hayden with my best wishes Christmas 1967." U. S. Senator Carl Hayden was at the time the longest serving (1912-1969) member of the United States Congress. Often called "the Silent Senator" because of his tendency to avoid speechmaking in favor of working behind the scenes, Hayden was especially effective in promoting the federal highway systen and federal programs for mining, irrigation, and reclamation in the American west (especially in his home state of Arizona). As President Pro Tempore of the Senate, Hayden twice became second in the line of succession to the Presidency--first upon the death of Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn, then after the assassination of President Kennedy. It is well-known that Johnson and Hayden, both leaders in… Read More
