Secondary to the narrative concerning the Northwest Coast and Russian activity there, the information gleaned by Mortimer concerning Bligh and the Bounty is exceedingly valuable, as the appearance of this title in most Bounty-related histories attest. Dust jacket edges chipped, closed tears and creases. Leaves bright and crisp. Despite detracting qualities, a presentable copy in scarce dust jacket. Thirteen character sketches in Belcher's drawings and Aumonier's prose, the last of which is reciprocal. Aumonier hopes in the introduction that in a hundred years this long out-of-print book will be found in a dusty attic and surprise the finder with depictions of "what people were like in those bad old days." Spines a bit faded to a mellow brown. Mild rubbing, light foxing that's mostly marginal; faint dampstain first 10 leaves of vol. II; grease pencil scribble p. 185 of vol. II. An attractive set, handsomely bound. A later collected-edition of these 18th century works, exquisitely bound by Ponge. Elected to the Académie in the year of his death, Charles Pierre Colardeau (1732-76) is best remembered for Héroides, written after the manner of Ovid, as well as a famous Lettre d'Héloise à Abelard, included in the first volume. Color window decal 3 x 4 inches. Story of the unique lake bridge system between Seattle, Mercer Island and Beaux Arts, saving fourteen miles of driving. With an explanation of the engineering and photos of construction of the longest pontoon bridge in the world until the Evergreen Point bridge was finished a few miles north in 1963.
