The translation of Alexander Pope with an introduction by Carl Van Doren. Printed by Joh. Enschede in Holland with type hand-set in Romanee, its first use, and designed by Jan van Krimpen. Each is #1002 of 1500 copies SIGNED by the designer on the colophon page. These titles were not illustrated due to George Macy's opinion that these works were "beyond the power of any modern illustrator, and that this work most definitely demands the simple dignity of a non-illustrated edition."

Alphonse Marie Louis de Prat de Lamartine (1790-1869) was a French poet and statesman who was instrumental in the foundation of the Second Republic.
