A fine press edition of a poem by mystic poet Mevlana Jaluddin Rumi (affectionately known as "Rumi" in the West). "O Drop" appears in Rumi's Mathnawai, a mystical epic in six volumes.

Letterpress printed in Univers on an Adana 8 x 5 by Mark Lintott using chestnut-colored ink. Printed on Hahnemulhe paper. Three mezzotints by Judith Rothchild. Bound in screenprinted paper, shades of brown with chestnut leaves, over boards. Laid in matching clamshell box. Author and title printed in black on spine and box. Signed and numbered by printer and artist. Of the edition numbers 1 - 10 include an additional mezzotint and are in a clamshell box; 1 -4 also include one of the original copper plates. Copies 11-50 presented in slipcases. Neruda's text is accompanied with three mezzotints by Judith Rothchild. While the text presentation is sparse and clean the images are velvety and dense. They capture the essence of Neruda's words - "from bristly foliage" to "only a seed".

Indonesian teak covers are held together by a central red cord and batiked wooden beads. Digitally printed on an Epson Stylus Photo 2200 with archival inks and Epson watercolor paper in an edition of 100. Each pouch is unique as each has its own batik design and cloth. Each book is signed and numbered. A true story. One lesbian trying to get pregnant; one gay man dying of AIDS. Life; death. The struggle to make life; the struggle to hold on to life. The ironies compound and cancel each other, until what is left are the dignity of struggle and sanctity of possibility. The structure is a modified accordion, with an extra flap attached at the top, adding to the sense of unfolding layers of stamps before one gets to the text. The poem can be read by turning the pages as in a codex structure, but as an accordion, the parts also exist horizontally as in a time line, echoing an underlying movement of the poem. The book was conceived, designed, bound, and the text letterpress printed on a Vandercook Proving Press by Susan Viguers. The type is Walbaum and the paper Dulcet. The images are offset printed by Lori Spencer on a Heideberg KOS in the Borowsky Center for Publication Arts, The University of the Arts, Philadelphia, PA. I selected poems that mentioned rivers, and then created very bad translations of these poems by using automated, literal translation software. This series explores bird species that are "on the verge" of extinction as defined by the National Audubon Society. Bird numbers can be lower than 10,000 or as low as a mating pair. Each book highlights a different species in different geographic regions of the United States. Whether due to environmental encroachment, climate change, etc. each species exists precariously on the edge of survival. Legislation assists in the protection of bird species, but needs to be safeguarded as environmentalists battle with lobbyists and politicians for legislation rollbacks.
