Description:
Philadelphia: Thomas Kite & Co, 1833. Disbound. Good binding. Octavo. 8 pp. Removed from nonce volume, side-stapled and reinforced with later tape. Ex-library copy rubber-stamped "duplicate" on the title-page and with a five-digit number on p. 3; pencil scribbled to the top margins of a couple of pages; mild foxing/toning. Friedlander, a pioneer in the instruction of the blind, writes to enlist the help of major Philadelphia public figures in his efforts to open a special school there. His pamphlet begins with an essay on notable blind persons of accomplishment of past centuries then proceeds, more briefly, to describe his local project's specific needs. The work ends with testimonials about Friedlander's successes in Europe--one from the Prince of Furstenberg and the other from Margrave of Baden. Scant institutional holdings. OCLC: 61623265. American Imprints 18919.

Strasburg, VA: Shenandoah Publishing House, 1940. Hard Cover. Very Good binding. Octavo, xii, 216 pp., maps. First edition. As issued in gray cloth with title in gold on the front cover and the spine. Binding is a bit toned at the edges; spine sunned, but generally a presentable copy. Though without indication this copy is from the family library maintained by the descendants of Confederate General Eppa Hunton. There is some pencil copy editing, that looks to be in the hand of Eppa Hunton IV, grandson of General Hunton and General William Payne. Nevins summarizes the work thus, "A sympathetic, appreciative account of Ewell's military career; Ewell, the author claims, possessed many qualities often lacking in our most celebrated heroes" CWB II, 60. Dornbusch II, 2725.

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1954. Hard Cover. Good+ binding. Octavo. [2], 140 pp. Early printing. In publisher's cloth with dust jacket. Publisher's flaw has the textblock bound upside down into the binding. Aside from this, a reasonably nice copy with light edgewear; high school award bookplate on the rear free endpaper; a few leaves with spotting, but generally clean; dust jacket is lightly rubbed at the extremities; price intact on the front flap. On the front flap and rear panel, Hemingway's 1954 Nobel Prize is mentioned and the latest novel advertised is The Hemingway Reader, suggesting this was likely issued in 1954. Regardless, a reasonably nice copy of Hemingway's Pulitzer Prize-winning classic.
