Hardback, bound in blue cloth with gilt titling and design to the spine and upper board. 23 × 14.5cm, 267pp. This copy has been signed and dedicated to the title page by Henry W Wolff, and dated 1896. Eight essays by Henry Wolff that had previously been published in journals such as The Gentleman's Magazine etc. They all have a historical flavour, with subjects such as Richard de la Pole, Voltaire, the Royal Family, and so on. Henry William Wolff (1840-1931) was a British co-operative activist and in 1895 was a founder of the International Co-operative Alliance, serving as its joint president until 1907. Condition: A good reading copy. The blue cloth boards are rubbed and bumped and the inner binding is a little strained in places but the book remains in good readable condition.

This copy is illustrated with the machinery used in the production of such coatings, and describes their components and how they are applied, eg linseed oil and drying oil varnishes, pigments and solid fillers, and coatings which dry by evaporation of solvents. Condition: This copy is in very good condition.

The ten engravings are housed in a leather folder which is itself in a card box. The folder measures 26 × 18.5cm. 10 loose mounted engravings, one page of limitation details. Text in Polish, English and French. A delightful collection of wood-engravings of old Warsaw by Polish artist Eugeniusz Pichell (1905-1976). The engravings are: 1. Nike of Warsaw, 2. Castle Square, 3. Piwna Street, 4. The Barbicane, 5. Waski Dunaj Street, 6. The Market Place, 7. The Roofs of the City, 8. the House "Under the Ship", 9. The Church of Our Lady, and 10. "Tribute to a great feat of arms, Beatrix Brice". This is the full script of a radio programme written by Beatrix Brice in memory of the 'Old Contemptibles', the soldiers of the BEF who went to France to half the German advance in the first months of the Great War. The text is from official histories and the military leaders (Sir John French, Horace Smith-Dorrien etc), as well unnamed soldiers of both the British and German armies. The version that was recorded for radio was shorter as it had to be condensed to one hour, this copy is unedited. All edges gilt. 21.5 × 14cm, frontispiece photographic portrait of Vernon in uniform, [2132]-2135, [86]-98, [889]- 898, [105]-108, [687]-697, [634]-646pp. A memoir of Richard Henry Vernon (1885-1921). He studied chemistry at Cornell and in Europe, served in the Great War with the Dorset Regiment, and eventually became a research student at Gonville and Caius. He died in 1921 of natural causes. The papers contained here include Organic Derivatives of Tellurium (in four parts) and the Interaction of Ethylene and Sulphur Monochloride. Condition: Good to fair condition but with some wear. The leather is scuffed and rubbed to the edges and spine ends, and along the joints. The pages are foxed but the inner binding is secure. The photograph frontispiece is signed in pencil by Lafayette photography.

Hardback, bound in the original brown cloth with yellow printed titling to spine and upper board. 28.5 × 20.5cm, 56pp + plates. This copy was owned by a New Zealand-born architect, Murray J Wren, who has annotated throughout, and hand-drawn a bookplate in to the front pastedown. He served in the Navy in the Second World War, and has written out the places his service took him to. This book is the text of four lectures given by Frank Lloyd Wright to the Royal Institute of British Architects in London in May 1939. The text of the four lectures is followed by photographic plates and architectural plans. Condition: A good reading copy. The cloth is rubbed and some of the yellow titling is wearing off. The book has been annotated throughout by Murray Wren but this does not affect the text. The pages a little creased in places and the binding secure but a little strained.

Hardback, bound in blue cloth with printed titling to spine and upper board. 19.5 × 12.5cm, 216pp. First published in 1884, The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State was a provocative and profoundly influential critique of the Victorian nuclear family. Engels argued that the traditional monogamous household was in fact a recent construct, closely bound up with capitalist societies. Under this patriarchal system, women were servants and, effectively, prostitutes. Only Communism would herald the dawn of communal living and a new sexual freedom and, in turn, the role of the state would become superfluous. Condition: A good reading copy. The spine is tanned and faded, the whole book a little dulled but otherwise in strong readable condition.

Not stated. Soft cover. Very Good. This is an original colour pen and watercolour of a Georgian building in the classical style, showing a single level main building with portico and entrance, and two domed clocktowers either side. It is on card and measures 41 × 22.5cm. Although unsigned, it was by artist Tony Townsend, a graphic designer and book illustrator. It is finely detailed, though unknown if it has been republished anywhere. Condition: Very good condition.

This is an unframed, detailed architectural painting of a house (probably newly built), along with the estate agents brochure once the house was completed. It was probably created for developers, architects, or estate agents, and shows a house called Costells Wood Cottage in Sussex between Haywards Heath and Scaynes Hill. It is unsigned but by Tony Townsend, an architectural and graphic artist. This highly detailed work is in pen and watercolour, and is on paper. It measures 28 × 42cm. Probably dating from the early 1980s, it shows a couple on the drive with a nice new car (looks a bit like a Ford Cortina). Condition: It is in very good condition, but with some light wear to the edges.
